Well after thinking about it for a year now I finally decided to repower my boat instead of trading up. I am sending the check in tomorrow for a 250 SHO to put on my 06 cougar FTD. I am looking forward to seeing what numbers I am able to get out of it. I have been having small troubles for a few years with my optimax just because I idle so much (sometimes 4-5hrs at a time just marking structure with my side imager), its not uncommon for a set of plugs to only last 5-6 months the last few times Ive had to change them and I am hoping the 4 stroke will be better with that. Plus I should get quite a boost on the top end over my regular 225 opti. Anybody have suggestions on set-up or propping? Im thinking 26 fury but not sure. Im at about 5000ft elevation and that seems to make my rpms a little lower and I have to run one pitch less than at sea level.

Yamaha has created a set of non-vented props just for the SHO motors. According to Yamaha, non-venting helps with hole shot and mid-range, I believe. I would start with one of them.Last edited by kramr on June 22nd, 2010, 11:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Have 2010 Puma Ftd with 250 SHO, have had it about one month. It is like a rocket can not believe the mid range and yes the ventless prop Yamaha 27P. Still learning to drive, but 72.8 at 5200 with 46 gal and 3 people.

I would think 81-82, but have rode in one for demo that was 79.6. The higher numbers will be the best i think I will see.

This one is going to be expensive with controls and engine swap out. The cables, harness, ignition, gauges and throttle control must be swapped.
