Conroe yielded another monster stringer last Sunday with 31.34 lbs. see results at ignitionbass.com click on conroe super teams feb 6th results to see photos.
Yep, it keeps putting out large stringers, though those behind fall significantly in weights.
Whats the deal with the 50% drop after the winning weight? Lucky or just plain that much better? Thats still insane. Good on them!- Chaz
It is a typical indicator of what has been discussed here and on Bass Fan on the lakes health. Though it will be two to three years before we know the overall condition of Conroe. Those who see these weights become enamored by the hype and overlook the drop until the gap departs and weights fall. We hope Conroe does not repeat that pattern as it really is a class fishery.
Conroe is seriously lacking in the vegetation growth and mass it takes to give forage cover to grow big enough to provide bigger fish with enough food to eat. The jet skis and pleasure boats may have their way just yet if the carp arent decimated any time soon. Fish hold to structure instead, but its not the same as having aquatic weeds and whatnot. I hope it doesnt go down the tubes, too. It was nice being able to drive about a hour and a half to get to Conroe, go fish, then drive back home and not have to pound the pavement for 3 or 4 hours one way to get someplace good to fish.Your Signature …
The guys that know how to fish for the big fish on Conroe are offshore, following the hybrids that are decimating the balls of shad. The big bass follow under the hybrids and smartly catch the injured and dead shad falling to the bottom.James
i feel sorry for the fisherman that cant do anything else but fish a patch of visible grass.oh what am i to do the grass dried up, its killing the fish help i cant fish over 5 ft.
You overlook that the bass population is strong on Conroe and that there is a history of these same actions destroying the resource in earlier years. This is not about anglers fishing a patch of offshore grass, though the fish loosing valuable cover that enhances the population.
Yup. No cover, no forage for bait fish to eat. No bait fish, bigger fish dont grow as much and not as many survive to be big fish in the first place. I dont need visible grass to fish, why try to stir something up that way? I am not complaining about Conroa not having much grass. What good does that do?Fishing deep is what worms, jigs, and crankbaits are for! One thing for sure on Conroe, when the water warms back up again close to swimming temperatures, the open areas on the lake will be swarming with pleasure boats and jet skis. Too much dangerous wave action and boat traffic to try and fish in that $^%$#! When it gets that way Ill head to Rayburn and have a nice relaxing weekend fishing deep and shallow, and not be bothered by folks having water fun not related to fishing.Think Ill try some dropping ratltraps in the open lake next I have a chance to go out on Conroe before its swimming weather and see what I snag. If I get any big fish, Ill let them go and keep the eatin sized ones for some good filets. Fried bass, yum!Cant wait for next month when Ill have time to go fish Rayburn. Itll be jig and worm time for sure! Whooo-eeeee!!! Pig pig pig pig soooo-ee! Hell, Ill be happy to just be on the water and will be just as happy to catch some fish with my dad and my daughter. I like Rayburn more than Conroe for the more miles of natural shoreline without all the bulwark construction and houses everywhere you look on most of the lake. Less underwater landmines (stumps) too. Of course, Conroe is a quick drive to the water from here. Depends if I want to fish for just one day, or fish for several days. And thanks for the good info on fishing under shad balls and stripers. The depth finder was showing those little suckers while tooling around last time I went there, but I wanted to fish the banks, trees, and ridges off of the main points for spawning bass. It worked, since I did haul in one good quality fish and a smaller one. Tossed both of those back so somebody else could catch them. I shouldve kept the 3-1/2 lber. Would have made some good filets….Your Signature …
