Live well pump problem and maintenance help

My Puma FTD pump out motor comes on and pumps fine for several seconds and then starts making a growling sound while still pumping. I can turn it off and back on and it repeats the same process. Im not sure if something is dirty or needing replacement.I tried to find maintenance recommendations for the live wells. I always clean it out after fishing and run clean water through the system.

does it trip a breaker or anything? That would suggest the pump is failing internally. Almost sounds like the intake is clogged up and it cant suck in water. Otherwise it would have to be the pump itself…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

To make sure there isnt any sand or trash causing it, remove the pump motor, blow out with a water hose. Fill live well and try again,

Please, PLEASE check the screens in the sumo if you have a newer model and you can request larger screens. The original screens are very small and the opening is 10 per inch on newer screens while only 20 per inch on original. The screens are located on the rear of the live wells on 2016 and 2017 models. The 2017 should all be 10 per inch. You also should open the valves on the spray bars to remove trash in the 1/2″ CPVC bars which inject a fine stream of water to aerate the livewell water. These flush trash into the sump where it can drain out the drain tube. There is more info in the FAQ section.

My boat is a 2011. I dont have the screens. I did run water and Dawn as recommended in the video. I opened the spray bar valves and flushed them several times.I back flushed the drain for the pump out. When I bought the boat two years ago the black filter was not in place. Yes the Vedio was a big help. I didnt know about the spay bar valves.i worked on it yesterday afternoon everything seems to work much better. Like new again.Thanks will be at the bend in A few weeks.Jim
