Cougar FTD Compartment Lock

I have an 03 Cougar FTD and am trying to figure out the best way to lock the drivers side storage compartment on the front deck. There is not a lip for the standard perko lock to grab onto, so you have to offset the arm on the bottom of the lock to about 4:00 and it cannot be “secured”. This was fixed when they changed the way the doors open in the 04s and later. Has anyone tried to address this problem with maybe a new style of lock that does not use the arm? I would rather not have to cut up the fiberglass but that may be the only solution. Any ideas would be great.

compartment locks are only going to keep an honest man honest. if they want to steal something theyre going to get it anyway. most thieves want rod and reels and not worms and lures! you could also purchase a loc r bar or similar or you could take your stuff out of the boat.

The original cam arm must have gotten broken and something is not fitting now.

Though a locker containment for storage is not going to keep a box lid closed while running. The oringinal lid design of this model did catch and it was not a fix. It was a preference for the pivot by some.

This is what it looks like. The edge of the compartment is so close that the arm has nothing to go under. The dark spot at the top is where the cam arm hits. The only lip is really the bottom of the bubble trim. I guess I will just have to get a lokrbar or not put anything of value in there. It doesnt come open when running so that is the most important thing. If that is the biggest thing about the boat that I dont like, then Im doing alright.

That should have a latch plate and it may have latched by the arm length at production time. Though we are assuming on this. It can have a latch plate installed.

Is that something I can get from Pete in parts and just drill holes and bolt on? I have never seen one and dont know how it installs. Thanks

They probably will have to fabricate one as they were not required for the boats originally. Not sure whether yours is a cam issue or what. The lock holes are drilled by CNC and are all identical.
