Sorry to be long winded but here goes. Engine is a 2000 opti 225. Every once in a while it looses a little power for a very short time while running. Then once in a while it cuts out completely and restarts fairly easily, and then once in a while it takes a while to get it started when it does start it doesnt want to take throttle for a little while and then runs normally. The last time it took over an hour to start it and get it running normally. Fuel bulb is fully inflated and hard at all times. I finally took it to a dealer (c&c Marine in Citrus Heights) of course it ran perfectly over 2 days and showed no codes at all!! In talking with one of the guys he made an off the wall suggestion regarding another customer with similar problems years ago. He said that after putting in thousands of dollars of parts Mercury finally suggested that he run a 100-1 oil mixture in the tanks using perf plus oil in addition to the regular oiling. The thoery is that the injectors or injector pump is sticking a little and the oil in the gas fixes this. So my question is have any of you run accross this and have you had success with this regimen? I am a little nervous to run without faith in the engine staying running.Irv

Irv, hard to say on this one. It sounds like a fuel issue and have you updated the fuel lines under the cowling, to the engine, fuel bulb and etc.This would be our first step. Go to checking the electrical connections like the cannon plug in the cowling. Check the engine stop switches in the control box and etc. Then go to electrical on the stator and other electrical parts.

There are many possible causes of these types of issues..A few things Id start with…1- The cannon plug make sure it clean and take a small pocket srewdriver or pocket knife and spread slightly the male terminals for a tighter connection.2- Fuel lines..IF this motor still has the original gray hose & primer bulb to the motor it needs changed ASAP..Also need to change fuel filter.As for the 100:1 oil yes it is a legit thing to add Premium Plus oil to your gas at this level..It helps in some cases..Also Quickleen fuel additive is a great additive. Also if you dont run your boat alot adding Quickare and or Quickstor is a good idea to help maintain fuel quality and help with phase seperation of ethanol blended gasolines..

My apologies forgot to mention that I did put in a new grey fuel line, bulb and filter. The old one was indeed falling apart. As far as fue lines under the cowl These are original and I thought that I read somewhere that the black fuel lines were not suspect. Have you guys changed these too? As far as the cannon plug is that the main giant connector under the cowl?
