I want to know what the best spinnerbait is. I have thrown Hawg Caller, War Eagle, Daves, Strike King, Zone, Terminator, Stanley and a whole host of others, but there always seems to be a cheap or poorly designed part to every one of those. I want a good spinnerbait with good quality blades that spin like theyre supposed to. Any suggestions?
i have had the same problems in the past. the only way i could get everything like i wanted was to make my own. it isnt any cheaper but all the componets are to my likes. if i had to use a store bought bait i do like the strike king pro elite models and accent makes a good bait also.
Of course we are strong supporters and friends of those great folks at Strike King, and everyone knows they as they sponsor our events. That being said, there is no singular good spinner bait. Spinner baits are like an entire tool box, and at times those differences in brands, colors, sizes, head styles, arm diameters, swivels, spacing, lengths, skirt bulk, trailers, hooks, body designs and more, make huge differences. Reservoirs, rivers, natural lakes, ponds, depth and more all dictate which one to use. Spinner baits are an entire arsenal themselves and extend with more depth in variety than crank baits or stick baits offer for those different needs and actions. Almost like putting all plastic baits in one gross category with worms to grubs and trailers together. Back a few years ago we gave away a few hundred promotional baits at a BASS event on the Potomac. The spinner baits were not excessively high quality, and the swivels were stiff, and they were just a #5 combo blade. Though for some reason the stiffness of the swivels changed the vibration of the blade, and many of hte upper stringers were caught on those baits. Sure they opted for other versions, though the co-anglers were throwing the Bass Cat logo labeled blades and catching fish, which left those Pro anglers looking us up trying to come up with more of those Bass Cat labeled spinner baits. In this case it was something a little different, and often that is what blade fishing. We know this doesnt help though is accurate.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 1st, 2008, 6:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.
For an over the counter spinnerbait it is hard to beat a Strike King. Think of it this way they have the #1 spinnerbait fisherman in the world fishing them so that should tell you something. I will change skirts/blades/etc but I always start with a Strike King…their compact silhouette spinnerbait is a great little bait and I use it a lot. Judd Lasiter
I have had great luck catching fish and the spinnerbaits holding up pretty well with NIchols Spinnerbaits out of Texas; they make what they call a pulsator that has great vibration and catches big fish! Don
The only spinnerbait to throw is the one you have confidence in,,,,,regardless of the make. They all make great blades today compared to ten or twenty years ago, and all will catch fish. Some are made to catch the fishermen more than the fish though, so be practical and throw what you believe the fish will hit out of a reaction strike, then make modifications if necessary. Personally i use some of the Strike King products, and find them superior to most, but also like the Screamin Eagle line of War Eagle lures, and both have their place in how i fish. Both manufacturers also make a great nitetime spinnerbait line ! D.
old reliable for fishing with kids! catches everything that swims for about a buck a pop! (i remember when i could buy a card of ten for a dollar when i first starting fishing in the early 70s). still hard to beat that blue/yellow/white skirt with silver willowleaf blade around the shallow cypress tree-lined bayous of south louisiana!
