Rod Locker on Sabre FTD

Any of you guys having problems with loading and removing 7 rods from rod locker? I use the holes nearest to inside and I have tried laying the rod eyes to side and still hard to get in and out. I am thinking of purchasing rod socksto see if this will help – do any of you use these at present and what are your opinions. Cant stand to break another $ 150.00 plus rod.

I have a 2007 Sabre FTD Marty Stone Edition, as long as I use holes on the inside I dont have any problem. The best two for me are bottom inside. But I carry at least three 7 ers all the time. You may try turning as you remove rod as the guides may hang on the end of the tube. Experiment and find the best tubes for each rod has worked for me. Socks may help but its not an issue for me. I usually carry about 7, 7 footers. Rod socks are a must. I use the top inside 2 and bottom inside 1 in the rod locker and the rest go in the drivers side compartment. I now have 2 rods that are 2 inches shorter than originals – that happened when I was in a hurry and did not put the socks on, one from each side. I have the socks from BPS and Cabelas and prefer the ones from Cabelas because the are adjustable. It is a little tight putting them in the rod lacker on the passenger side due to the console – twisting does help – and a few choice words. Wayne

BassBud, WIBassman is right Rod jackets/socks are the answer to your problems. I too had broke tow rods and damaged one eye tip initially in my 2008 Sabre. Since I have started using stick jackets the problem as gone away. Good luck! Google Stick jackets. misr12

I will ditto the comments above, for 7 rods and above I would recommend rod covers of some sorts. I keep 3 rods that are 7 and 2 that are 73″ in the port side rod locker without any problems. You do need to use the inside holes for ease of use. I was surprised that the rod locker on my Sabre FTD would hold that many rods of that length, but it does. Just be careful because it is tight, but it will not cause any problems.

Get some Rod Slicks, they are the best I have found.

Another option is to use the opposing locker without the organizer, it may offer easier access. BCB

+1 on the Stick Jackets. Except for that one that shot off my rod like it was spring loaded one morning in low light. Went right off the front of the boat. Surprised it didnt float.
