impeller change -gear selector

Ive got the service manual. 2006 Optimax 150. When replacing the impeller the manual says gearshift in neutral beofre removing the lower unit. Ive seen where others have said reverse, and still others say forward. So……Can someone tell me with certainty which is the best position for the gear selector when dropping the lower unit? Thanks for the help!Bob

We like neutral as you will be turning the propeller and driveshaft.

I go with neutral when I take the lower unit off then shift the gear selector and the shift shaft on the lower unit into forward when I put it back together. This is on a 95 model though Ive never worked on as new as yours but Im guessing it is similiar.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
