Okay, enough about MG vs. MK, we have what we like. Nonetheless, today I passed my Cisco CCNA, and I was STOKED. So stoked I came home and decided to install the Fortrex myself. First of all, I am not mechanically inclined, at all. I rather pay someone to do it, about all I do myself is change my own oil. My thought is stroke the economy…..ANYWAY, I figured if I can segment networks, why not tackle this? It took me about 5 hours, and my arm is sore from reaching through the power recepticle hole, but my Fortrex is mounted. Yes, it took me five hours, but it was easy. If I can do it, anyone can. Thank you Bass Cat for using nicely cut metal backing under the mounts. Holes matched up perfect, and Im a happy camper. Thank you owners for all the advice. Now well see what happens at Stillhouse tomorrow, maybe this luck will put me on some fish! BTW, the Fortrex sits as high as my windshield…..maybe I should lower it on mount.JP
Congratulations on passing your Cisco CCNA!
Not sure what s Cisco CCNA is but congrats!! Good job on the TM replacement also!
Passing your CCNA is something I never thought Id see on this forum. Ive been a network engineer for 25 years with the same company and i was told that I need to pass my CCNA this year and CCNP next year by my management. The funny thing is that I have new guys working in my group that have passed CCIE written our have their CCNP certs and they cant design or fix anything by themselves. Ive taken some of the testing software tests and I fail them every time because of the way they ask the questions. I guess Ill just take a week off(on the company) to study my butt off with no work distractions. Im in the process of buying my first BassCat as we speak, and once I get it, half of my work brain cells will be put to sleep while I am in fish mode so well see wat happens.
There are CCIEs on the forum so be nice.

Congrats on passing the CCNA!!! I too am CCNA certified and that is one tough mother. Again, Congrats!!!
Spent the weekend on Stillhouse….BRUTAL. Nonetheless, thanks for the Kudos that Cisco test was the hardest test Ive EVER taken. In fact, Im sure I used ALL my luck up because I BLANKED this weekend. Nevermind all that, guys this is MY thoughts on the Fortrex/Motorguide switch. The Fortrex is really sweet. Smooth operation, no issues yet, (my motorguide was okay at first). Operation (deploy/pickup) is smooth as silk. Too easy. Getting used to the “go” pedal being on the other side is funny. First thing I thought, is “Dangit, I messed something up, this thing aint working.” I was pushing the wrong side of the pedal. The just of it is this: I think the motorguides operation was quieter (MK seems like it vibrates louder, may be the prop – nothing bad), BUT the other issues I had were worth the switch. No issues with the power cable, slapping noise, indicator, or steering cables. The way the Fortrex sits much higher, and I hate that my cover isnt fitting, but I will contact Deans. Someone mentioned how cool it was that everthing matched on my boat while pointing out the yellow on the Fortrex. So its a wrap. BEST PART IS IT DIDNT FALL OFF into the lake.t04-hang in there, keep studying, it will come to you.Tom-I passed that test so I can upgrade to a Eya/SHO someday.1 Thing to add…..My Fortrex came with Motorguide holes. My motorguide only has MG holes. So, I guess a lot of people get rid of their MG and get MK?Last edited by JPeesy on July 18th, 2011, 1:13 am, edited 2 times in total.
