Bilge Switch Malfunction

Ok, so when the battery is not 100%, when I push the bilge switch it sometimes fails making a buzzing noise, then it will finally stay on but the pumps only run at slow pace initially before picking up the pace. Its as if the are being starved for voltage. I did replace the original 750s with 1000 gph pumps. I have replaced the switch panel, the battery (now optima blue top), and replaced the inline breaker. The only thing I know of is to replace the relays between the inline breaker and the panel. Any ideas?

Coby, did it do this with the 750 gph pumps also or only after you changed them out?

Yes, try another cartridge swap out and see if they speed up. If not then we are going with a voltage test on the wires, then lets shoot at the dash for some tech work. .

It never did this with the 750s. It started earlier this spring. The new bilge pumps had been in for about 9 months with no problems. Do those larger pumps pull too much? Lets assume the 750s work OK. What needs to be done to let the 1000s work well? What if I wire one to the accessory switch so that I only run one at a time. Once I spear another wave, then I turn them both on. That way if I ever have power failure through the main system, I still have a working pump.

I replaced mt 750 with 1000….no problem. Sounds like a bad cartridge, or bad connection some where. Easy to test on a BCB…just unplug the pigtails and plug them into another pump like one of the livewell pumps.

We had issues with going to 1000 gph on older dashes that were not designed for that load of amperage.

Ive noticed a series of electrical tie ins mounted to the back wall of the starboard rear compartment. What is that and what does it do. Any chance it needs replacement? Thanks for the help!

That block feeds everything Coby. It shouldnt need replacing but some of the terminal screws may need tightening or connections could be dirty. I still think you may have a bad pump or something hung in one moving in and out of the impeller.

That terminal block is where we tie everything together and Hagler has the answer.

If the pump is the case, would that explain the switch makes a little sizzling electrical sound when I depress the button? The horn will also malfunction when the battery gets tired.
