BCB/Alabama/Arkansas owners PLEASE HELP ME OUT

Ok so I bought my 2015 Sabre from a guy in Alabama. According to him and the Outdoor Alabama website, Alabama does not require boat trailers to be licensed and does not have a title law on boat trailers.Arkansas does, although I have read where a trailer weighing 3000 lbs or less is OPTIONAL. I went to the revenue office yesterday and registered the boat, but they would not register the trailer without a title. She said the certificate of origin would not work because it has his name on the back and not mine. So now, Im seriously confused….. what in the world do I need at this point to be legal as far as the trailer? Boat is legal as of yesterday…. but I have no idea about the trailer. Can anyone help me understand this?I like to think Im an intelligent guy but this has me pretty confused.

If the individual you bought the boat from cant produce a title, you will more than likely have to register for a lost title and get a replacement. The last time I had any dealings with a lost title replacement it took about 8 weeks to get the new title. Dealing with the D.F.A. ( dept. of Finance and administration) usually leaves me confused as well.

DMV told me this morning that he can sign over the certificate of origin and they should be able to submit that with the bill of sale and get it done…. but she said the state might then require additional paperwork.It just seems stupid to me that states dont have common laws on titles and ownership…..

I agree, its silly that they dont have equal and like laws, I bought a boat out of Tenn. once and it was a paperwork nightmare, swore I would never buy another boat from out of state, And I purchased it thru a dealer. Glad to hear that you may have a resolve to the issue.

When I sold my Sabre to a guy from KY he sent me the name of a form that I needed to fill out and sign, and have notarized. It came from the KY DMV website. And thats what it was for, so he could title the trailer and boat in his name, since AL doesnt title boats or trailers. The form was good for both.Your local DMV should have a transfer form like that, that you can send to him to have him sign and notarize.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

I bet him signing over the certificate of origin will work. You might try a different revienue office. Some are a little more helpful than others.Please change my user name to Firecat

I work for a trucking company. I have to do all the licenses for our trucks and trailers. Just be glad you dont have to deal with the IRP. Local DMV is a piece of cake compared to the IRP.Good luck getting titled.
