so i have been looking for a good fishing rod preferably topwater (jerkbait) that is short. my dad has one that is perfect but he can let it go. Its 55¨, nothing compares but i would like to find anything close to a rod that short but not to stiff and not a horse whip so if anyone wants to talk about rods and give me some advice on rods then i would greatly apreciate it

Abu Garcia makes a 6-6″ M in the veritas 2.0 thats right down the middle of the road as far as not too stiff but not a whip. I build custom rods but, not sure if I could find a blank that short. ive been thinking about building a custom rod cause its hard to find a rod like the one i want but im not sure about doing the work quite yet

Are you talking a baitcasting or spinning rod? I like Daiwa rods and have been wearing out my new Zillion 7 Medium action and Xtra-Fast tip jerkbait rod. I checked the shortest you will probably get a Daiwa baitcasting rod in is 6 or 66″. They have a Tatula model that states it is for drop-shotting that is 63″ that is Medium Light with an extra-fast tip. For jerkbaits on the Daiwa rods, I have had really good success with a medium action and xtra-fast tip. Every rod manufacturer is a little bit different and so is each angler, but that is what has served me well.

6ft 6 in. Is going to be the shortest you will find in a retail location.If you want a factory built stick look on eBay for an old loomis 6ft 723 in a gl3 that is going to be close to Zells all star.I have been building custom sticks for a decade,and I wouldnt buy a factory rod ever again.you can get a MHX custom built to whatever you want fairly cheap due to cheaper shipping on short blanks.i personally think the st croix 6ft8 avid is fantastic for your application,but not a cheap build.unfortunatelty,you can no longer buy loomis blanks,but a 782 cut down would also be spot on.if I didnt build my own stuff I would lean toward dobyns,as I prefer thelengths and actions of their blanks.but they dont have any “shortys” as most manufacturers do not either.hope this helped,and if you have any more qs,or want a custom email me at [email protected]

I also like a short rod for jerkbaiting. St. Croix in their Avid series makes a 6 medium power, fast tip, casting rod, perfect for that. If you are talking about spinning, they make a 59 medium power, extra fast tip, again in their Avid series. It is hard to find short rods like these.

Bass Pro still has some 56″ pistol grip rods. I think the Bionic Blade is the “furthest up the line” they make in that style. They also make 6 straight handle rods which is what I use now (10 years old) and I like them. I am planning on switching to 66″ rods when I buy new ones.

Give Vexan Bass Rod a look. I just replaced my tackle and gave them a try. So far, a great rod at a very good price.
