I had the motor in a bunch sticks/muck and now it wont get to temp when idling. I gets to 105-109 after idling for a while, then inreases to 115-125 when I get going, then back to 105-108 idling. It has always idled at 125-130. I am sure it is crap in the one thermostat (one was fine) but I cant get to the drivers side one without moving the fuel rail. Can the rail be loosened and slid back away from the head without depressurizing or removing any hoses?This is on a 2005 standard opti.Thanks!UPDATE – Chunk of wood in the thermostat. Yes, if you need to slide fuel rail back it is o.k., just be sure not to pinch seals when re-installing. Ive done this several times, youll get good at it !

Had the very same issue on my 06 Opti. Found a little Conroe pebble stuck in port thermostat.

Yep piece of cake to do. Just make sure you have extra thermostat gasket on hand if you tear one. Another trick is to start engine on the hose (water running) let it warm up a little, then feel the heads to see which one is running cool. That way you will no which thermostat you need to clean! The cool head is the one you want to clean……also the smartcraft gauge is giving a average temp between the two heads. They both usually are not stuck open. From my experience the port side is most likely
