Topic: 2008 175 Pro Idling Temperature

I recently noticed that when Im idling the temperature is going up to 175 degrees. When its on plane the temp comes back down to 100 degrees. Should i be concerned? Is it time to replace the impeller?I noticed this the last two times out and the air temp was around 75 and water temp was 68. The temp alarm is not being triggered.Thanks

It may or may not have a water pump impeller loosing some, though it is about time to replace it if you use it frequently. On this engine we are usually not overly concerned with temperature unless the show temperature or pressure warnings, which you dont have yet. Though it might be a little bit of insurance on replacing it to see how it performs. How did it perform the first warm summer? Or are you just noticing it now as you get used to your rig?

I have the exact issue with my opti 150 about every other year, always fixed with a new impeller. Now I change the impeller every January as part of my maintainence routine. Ive been told that when the boat sits, the fins on the impeller can flatten a bit and not pull enough water at idle. My last impeller only lasted 7 hours, but had a 3 month “rest” before it failed.

I bought the boat used last fall so Im still getting familiar with it. Ill get the impeller changed.Thanks for the replies
