There werent no Bass Cats to drool over! Of course, BCB dont need to do no advertisin at that show, our boats do all the advertisin for themselves! Whoop!I wandered over and took a critical look at the skeeters just to see what the other side was doing. Their swing-away trailers did not have a good design on the swig-away part. With the way they have it, the frame on the right side of the trailer remains an open hole in the frame where the trailer tongue swings on a hinged pivot. When closed, if youre going through dirt, ud, rain, or gravel in your travels, all that crap can find its happy way inside the forward part of the trailer tongue frame. Not good. Just go ask a corrosion engineer. Storage compartment lids were really hard to open and had kinda a small piston support for the size of the lid, plus the support rod was sort of short AND right smack dab in the middle of the lid. It would be a pain in the patoohkus to mount those hanging bait rack things underneath their lids with the support rod in the way (talking about their rod box storage). For some reason the paint seemed cheap, too. I could tell the trim stripes, which were metalflake paint, were not hand laid stripes but were spray-painted on using a template. There were several noticeable places on one boat where the trim stripe did not have a sharp edge and looked like the template had a tear in it when used for blocking pait. The boats at least used Mercury and Yamaha motors, although they had Atlas hydraulic jackplates instead of Detwilers. Well, enough about weeders. Not a lot of folks at the show. Note to peeps who are still planning on going, if you are going to get your tickets there, they oly take cash for tickets, and have a convenient rip your wallet off atm machine right by the ticket window. Get cash from your bank before going or buy your tickets someplace else, or just dont go! Not a lot of true boat stuff for sale there. One vendor booth had water ski type stuff for sale, but no one had two-cycle oil, fuel conditioners, propellers… There was one booth selling Lowrance and some Humminbird products, but not a lot. Other booth had an interesting electric batter-powered motor called a torqueedo, made in Germany. Biggest power wa 10hp. Battery pack supposed to last 4-6 hours. Battery pack rechargeable, but they didnt say how. Probably a proprietary charger. They would be fun to put on a kayak, but thats defeat the purpose of a yak (exercise and savig dollars on fuel/electric).Lots of big boats with big dollar price tags chopped in half. The trailers those things were on, well I dont think even my diesel dually would pull htem without a little huffing and puffing. There was one guy there selling some new fishing rods. All the components of the rods were made in the US, except the blanks, which were made in China . The owner was there and said it took them a year and a half to get a rod blank they were happy with. They had a 6-9″ rod that would have made a good topwater rod, but, for the price, I was not willing to bite on a chinese rod blank. Dude also told me o one in America was making graphite rod blanks. I jsut checked, SURVEY SEZ YOU WERE WRONG DUDE! Found several, including Seeker, that make plenty of all sorts of specialized rod blanks here in the good ole USA. Take yew commie schweinhund! Now, as for me, I will stick with my Bass Cat boat, my guns, God, my Faith, my family, and our Constitution. We assume this was the George R. Brown Summer Show. A BCB dealer has not done that show in about 3 or 4 years. They seems to do alright there, though it is very dependent on summer weather and things going on in Houston. BCB

As far as rods, most rods that you see are imports, but there are a few left that are American made. Even some blanks that you might think are American are imports. Asian rods are getting better and if you can find one that you like and it has a decent warranty then dont hesitate. As far as the Skeeter, well……………………………thats why I run a Cat and a Cat can be had with a Mercury on the back!
This show at one time was at G R Brown but was moved to Reliant. We were ther 2 years ago and did really well. But with the slide in the economy it is not cost effective to go. This show doesnt draw the traffic like the winter show and past experience says this is mainly a saltwater show. I would have liked to have had some Skiff Cats and a Bay Cat there though.
