My swing tongue wont hardly move. I have shot it with PB Blaster and other things to free it up but it still is all I can do to move it. It was not used at all the first 5 years but now is going to be stored in a garage which requires me to use it. Can the bolt be taken out and replaced? Would it help to have a trailer shop remove it and clean up the hinge swing points? I just need to figure out a way to make it swing easier
Im sorry to ask this question….but…..I did this so I thought Id ask you if you had done this as well…..Did you take the strap loose from the boat?I tried to swing my tongue without taking my strap loose and I thought my tongue was frozen up too……only to find that I had not taken my strap loose and the strap was holding it in place.
We assume the bolt has frozen and rusted into the hinge. There is no tolerance or play in the huge and bolt, which allows for corrosion to easiy lock it up. We would soak it and try to drive the bolt out. Leave an old nut on the bolt to protect the threads. Worst case scenario is drilling the bolt stem and trying to relieve it. We have seen them pretty stubborn.
you have to spray the hell out of it with the PB, maybe a couple treatments!? how does BCB feel about heating up the hinge (just to loosen it up) with a torch?Last edited by socalpIII on March 12th, 2013, 5:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I would imagine heati g would not be a good idea as it will mess up the paint as well as possibly melt the wires and rubber brake line inside of it. I would tap on the left side of padded tongue with 12 lb hammer. It will move in small increments, just ap back and forth and apply PB blaster or even brake fluid on the hinge bolt in between. Thats what I have done in the past on other hinged tongues with success ! I assume you pulled both pins?
i sell a penetrating oil that i can almost guarantee will free that sucker up. ill send you a free can if you want to give it a try.Last edited by cajun catter on March 13th, 2013, 5:00 am, edited 1 time in total.
