any lake lanier tips ?

bringing family to lake lanier all next week, so im gonna bring my cat. thinking about sneaking out a morning or two to go fishing since were staying on the lake. i can be back before most of my girls are even awake. just plan on bringing a drop shot rod, a topwater rod, and a crankbait rod. traveling light. gonna be in the cummings area, so any advise for some catch and release bass fishing would be appreciated.

Fish main lake points. Most points have some type of brush pile planted.Top water (walk the dog) in the morning. Theyll come up from 25 to hit it.Definitely have a white fluke, fish head spin (I like using white fluke jr.). Afternoons switch to shaky head, jigs, and drop shot. Dont use anything dark – use green pumpkin colors for best luck.On shaky head I use green pumpkin & ayu robo worms – if its sunny Ill use watermelon purple flake or morning dawn robo worms.For drop shot use small green worms. If they stop biting it but you still see fish switch to a red/tomato color. If you dont see more than one fish its hard to get them to bite – they seem to need competition.Fluke and FHS youll get bigger fish typically. Stay on main lake points in the 20-25 foot range. If its cloudy rain they may come up more shallow. If its windy throw FHS and fluke along wind blown points. All about points now.Swim baits were doing good but that has kind of tapered off some.Some people say they are ctaching on a crank but I have no luck with that. Dont bother with a spinner – lake is too clear and they know it.Lanier can be a big puzzle to figure out sometimes but youll get a pattern. Just remember, that pattern will change hour to hour. Spots move around. Ive been doing best around the brush piles so if pass over a good one mark it and come back later.Good luck!

but the bass fishermen were doing just what you guys said….25 ft of water on main lake points. had a few fellas come through our cove chunking top waters early in the morning, but i did not see them catch anything.we stayed in cummings, and young deer creek had several interesting looking points and islands, and a handful of bass boats, but i never even tried to fish for bass. doh.at least my kids were able to catch a few bream at the dock. what a beautiful lake…even with the five foot yacht wakes.

Glad you had a good time. Yeah – the five foot yacht waves can be a pain sometimes. You get out on the main lake on a weekend and it becomes a nightmare. Confused seas I call it. Think of 1,000 of those yachts going every which way, then throw in a triple decker cabin criuser with a helicopter on top (yes its true) and youll probably have an idea why I dont go much on weekends except early mornings.It wouldhave been nice to go down the lake some. It is a beautiful lake.
