There is more to the checking and reasons as to why. One most people do not realize. It is the same factor as your gearcase often suffers and why we all need to be diligent in checking our hubs and all spinning items. It is also another as to why we vote for grease verses oil bearings. Of course the new Vault system is in between, though we could always revert if we find this to be a factor. One of the largest contributors to hub issues is old fishing line. You back your trailer in the water and the old 20 pound monofilament line has been discarded on the ramp, or often by a bank angler who was fishing there due to easy parking. That line gets on your wheel as you enter the water and the line wraps your spindles easily as you pull out. Down the road you discover the grease and if your lucky you were paying attention and learn of a seal missing long before you have a failure. The truck seldom gets in the water, though your trailer does and the water floats/suspends the mono or flurocarbon lines and the result is wrapping of a spinning part. How many times have you removed a trolling motor propeller to learn that it has line wrapped around the motor shaft. This is more common than a spindle seal, though it is virtually the same if not a more focused rick for some. Especially if the bank runners are common at the launch ramp you use.
