Guys, I am looking for a new stick. I have 2 Shimano Crucials and an American Rodsmith. The Shimanos are both the 76″ med. heavy and are not quite a stiff as I would like. The American Rodsmith is heavy after you hold it all day, but it is like swinging a broom handle and will move a fish out of the junk. I want something that has more power than the Shimano in a light rod. One more thing which may be a pipe dream, I dont want to spend a fortune (say under $200 if possible). Maybe Ward will sell me the GPS point for the Powell he threw in the lake…. Thanks for the help. JohnLast edited by jpeiserich on August 19th, 2009, 3:51 am, edited 1 time in total.
John, Good friends with Robert Hines and I have a G Loomis Mossyback I may part with. I was wanting to get a little more than 200, but net net, prolly what I would get after I put it on ebay. It is the 7 5″ stick and it is a flipping rod. I used it about 5 times total. I found myself flippin more with my carolina stick than the flipping rod (not to mention I sold my boat). It is a freaking broomstick and is in great shape. Shoot me an email at ] if interested. I would do for 2 bills for you b/c I like me some Robert and Cheri. If you want to check it out, I will have Robert bring it down and let you check it out. I had a Chronarch 50mg on it sometimes and it was a very lightweight rig. Lemme know as soon as you can b/c I am about to list on ebay. Retail on this rod is $325 new. -Lee P.S. Had another issue with a loomis rod earlier this week and I know some think they are over priced, but in my opinion, they are the BCB of rods in the customer service department. That is not trashing other rods, but just speaking from my experience.Last edited by lreddmann on August 19th, 2009, 1:50 pm, edited 3 times in total.
I use the Falcon Cara Head Turner. It is light enough to flip with all day, but has the back bone to move them out of the junk. It should be in your price range also.
John, You have the best there is,,,,and if you want lighter move up to the H3 series in the Rodsmiths. http://www.americanrodsmiths.com/Produc … fault.aspx Personally i like the balance of the Mag Strike series. Gimme a shout if i can help. D. p.s. Fish-N-Stuff is going to be the exclusve central Ar. dealer for American Rodsmiths !Last edited by dbasketman on August 19th, 2009, 5:39 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have two Falcon Cara telescopic 76″ flipping sticks. They are light-weight and very sensitive, yet have plenty of backbone. I have used them both for 4 seasons, and recently broke the tip off of one–i had reeled the 5lb fish on 25lb P-line to lip it, and it made a last second surge. I didnt have enough line out and the tip popped. These rods have a life-time warranty, and within 10 days, I had a new rod for the cost of $20 handling. Retail on the Cara Flipping stick is around $199… Good Luck. Gary Hollander p.s. The Lowrider Flipping stick is a fine rod as well; a little less expensive and a little heavier, but still with a 5 year warranty. I use one for C-rigging.
If you really want to make a difference in the weight of your combo, get a lighter reel. This will make the most difference by far! Revo Premier, Diawa Steez, or shimano 50mg (core/chronarch). As far as light rods go i like the Kistlers. When you go lighter you have to go higher end but you can get this stuff used all the time on different boards. Or from someone like Phil Addison that sells his stuff once a year.
Try the Kistler Magnesium ADFP stick 78″, its light and you can get it for under 200. Ive got the LTA 711″ as well as a Power Tackle 104, They are all great rods, but for the price try the Kistler Magnesium. Mike
I just got a couple of new flippin sticks in the last 2 months i love them both. One is the denali 76 hvy…. The other is a deep south preston clark series 76 hwy i luv them both… look them over at. http://www.deepsouthfishingrods.com or http://www.denalirods.com There are som many rod companys these days i just try to find the ones i like the most and i have never found a lighter or more sensitive rod than either of those.
They make the Crucial in a Heavy. If you like the crucial, look that up. Also, the Crucial MH in the Extra Fast tip is quite a bit heavier than the MH with just the Fast tip.
I love my 766 powell xtra heavy if lighter is what youre looking for. I have a Jig 1 AR and love it too- I also think that the Denali XH should be a helluva rod too- if lighter and still stiff is your goal- Email Scott Estes at Cat and ask him about the Denali or go by H20 and see if Ken has one to look at!C.O.D.
