Hi folks, I am looking to purchase my first Bass Cat, I would like the Sabre FTD with the Merc Pro xs 175. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions regarding this boat. on the Bass Cat web site it say the dash can only handle a 5″ unit but a Bass Cat Video I watched said up to the humminbird 800 series units. can someone clarify this for me. what is the max rod length you can fit into these lockers and how do those of you who have the Sabre FTD like it compared to other 18 boats you have owned? what were they differences and can this boat handle big waters? I would buy a bigger boat but this is the one that fits the budget.thanks,Derrick
The Sabre can only handle a 5″ screen but the Sabre FTD can handle at least an 800 series Humminbird and I think, though Bass Cat can answer with certainty, that it can handle the 900 series as well. I have been very impressed with the ride of these boats at the dealers meeting each year and I sell quite a few through my store and all of my customers have been very pleased with them. If you do a search on the Sabre on here you will find they have a very strong following. Folks on here love them and several have downsized from larger rigs to the Sabre. The term that comes up most often is its a blast to drive and fishes big. I believe you can get 2 or 3 8 rods in locker on inside slots. Tom and others who have or had Sabres can tell you more. Have fun and I doubt you will find a better 18 on the market. Have fun shopping!
If you take the front rod organizer out and use rod socks, you can easily get 7 plus rods in there… I dont think I would try to stuff anything over 76″ in there but, others may say different….13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
I routinely put four or five 711″ rods in the box of my standard Sabre. I took the rod organizer out and always use rod socks. No issues whatsoever.

Slide those long rods under the organizer. Now that I moved back into our old house with a smaller garage I wish Id kept my Sabre FTD/175 combo. At this point trading the paid for Cougar for another new one makes no sense. My wife loving the room and comfort of the bigger boat is the clincher there, so we keep it in a storage unit. I doubt you find a more capable 18 footer.
^^^ and heres the regular console w/ the 513 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
