humminbird si transducer location option not being utilized (Wondering why?)

Can someone tell me why im not seeing an option of mounting a 998si transducer as a through hull (with the new style transducer—XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T ) in the step up above the drain plug on a Puma FTD 12 model. I have seen this on many boats and through expierence know it works like a charm. Also concerns about damage are a thing of the past. The transducers are shoot through the hull on all models, except the SI series. Though you can order the Transducer Shield Saver for rear mount DI or SI and y cable the internal transducer on the 998 units.

The SI series have a transducer that is mounted through hull (XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T) that has a stem that goes through the hull and is secured from the inside. the only thing that is seen on the outside of the hull (step up) is the housing for the SI transducer itself the wires and retaining nut are on the inside of the boat. We are not familiar with that transducer ourselves. Production or purchasing may know more about it. We do know they used a Lowrance molded in puck many years ago before. That one we know nothing about. Maybe tomorrow they can help more as we have never seen one.

To me I would not use that style of transducer, 1) its another hole in the boat for water to leak in.. 2)More work to replace verses one mounted to the jack plate. 3) Down the road if you plan to go different brand or type it will have to stay.

We do not offer the through hull mount like that as it has No flat surface area to montnwher is will have water without turbulence or presenting turbulence on the hull. The external mount is the only way to go with the Shield Savers mentioned. BCB does offer the Transducer Shield Savers and tapping the plates for mounting in 2012. We did do a through hull Lowrance as mentioned in the early 1990s, which we designed, though it received mixed reviews as folks do not like the hole in their hull. Also since those are no longer in manufacture the availability suffers and now you have a hole in the hull.

dr harvey – You will like it better on the outside and on the jack plate. I have mine mounted there with the Transducer Shield and it works very good. You use the Y-cable to afford the use of the inside factory mounted transducer for high speed running. The best of both worlds!
