I want to try a 4 blade prop

I have a 2007 Bass Cat Cougar FTD with a Yamaha 250 hpdi with a Yamaha 27TI. Prop shaft height is 3 inches. I do not have the driving skills to run this boat WOT. the most I can get out of it is 73 MPH at 5200 RPM. I am trying to learn how to drive the chinewalk but it is not easy. I would like to try a 4 blade prop for better hole shot in the summer and a more stable drive. I am leaning toward a Powertech TRO4 or RKR4 26 pitch. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Learn how to drive the boat in the current set-up before spending $$$ on a prop you may not need.The T1 is the preferred prop in most cases, or the Fury.

I would agree with just learning to drive with what you have. I am doing a bit better than you with my CougarFTD/250ProXs. I have run it right at 76mph, but can get no more. Sherm has had it up to 80mph. I run a 26 Fury. I did get a 26 Trohpy(4 blade) just to use as a spare prop. I tried it out, it didnt help make the boat any more stable at all. It was about the same, chine walk wise, and it had a slightly worse hole shot. So I continue to use my Fury and keep the Trophy as a spare.

Hey oldman I have a Power Tech four blade 25p with extra PSV holes drilled in it if you are interested the prop is in immaculate condition only ran it twice. I have a 08 Cougar with a 250 series II. Brian 225-270-0900

27P Bravo XS 1! Move up the motor in 1/4 increments until you like the hole shot Dont be afraid to run it pretty high as long as good WP and torque is manageable. It will not blow out due to large diameter blades. Very good smooth running prop out of the box. I run a 28P on my 250 pro xs. No chine walk when balanced right. Good out of the hole, and runs 80+ loaded when its cool outside.

yea, DO NOT waste your time with the trophy 4 blade if that is what you are thinking about. You will just throw one of the blades off.

Thanks for the advice. We have had good rains this year so I have enough water to get the boat in my home lake and work on my driving.

How much trim are you using?My bro has a 1998 Jaguar, 2004 250HPDI and hits 5800 rpms with 26 fury at tops out 74-75 plus solo. Trimmed out at about 3/4 on the gauge.

Ran my 28 P Bravo XS 1 after drilling 4 pvs hole and placing small plugs in each. I have video of the boat planing with this set up if anyone want to see the runs from idle to 30 mph. Full gear, wells empty 16-18 gals of fuel: 3 mph to 20 mph (when the nose tips over) takes 3 seconds. 3 mph idle to 30 mph takes 5 seconds. 79.9 mph top end.Same load/fuel load but with full live wells: 5 secs to plane, 7 secs to 30 mph. 78.9 top end. Hole shot to me felt very good.

I will soon try a severely worked 26P Trophy that has been massaged to a great extent by Steve. He has added 1 of pitch, and made it very mean with some of his racing tricks. I expect it to be awesome out of the hole and have great acceleration. I will post a comparison to the 28 Bravo XS 1 once I get it in the mail.
