Just on my way back in from an evening of fishing in my PIV and just got the “Lost Engine Communication” message on my SmartCraft gauges on my 2007 Merc Opti. System alarmed and message appeared while running through a moderately grassed pond. Gauges froze and wouldnt turn off until I disconnected the starting battery….reconnected battery and so far everything seems fine. Could it have been something as simple as a battery connection being knocked or working itself loose?

I had the same issue a couple times on my 07 250 Pro XS and once corrected it went months to years before it repeated.

That is a loose canbus lead on one of the plugs. The simplest place to look is under the dash at the Mercury junction box, reconnection of those leads would be our target if it continues as there could be a bit of corrosion from humidity. Another option is the terminal resistor having an issue on the junction box and we have had to replace those, which allows the SC system to talk once it terminates the signals so they loop.

Thanks alot for the replies. Havent had the problem again since Saturday evening…ran fine yesterday and this morning. But Ill root around under the dash and see what it looks like under there. Thanks again and Happy 4th of July!
