I just bought a new to me 2006 Sabre. It has a Motorguide on it. I want to put on a 52″ shaft Minnkota. Would anyone be able to tell me how far ahead on the boat I have to mount it, so as not to interfere with the rod locker lid opening, while the trolling motor is up. I assume that access to the mounting hardware is thru the panel where the motor plugs in. It looks pretty tight. Any secrets to this swap?

I may be mistaken, but I believe a Minn Kota interferes on all BCBs unless you adjust them out in the bracket. Even on the 20+ foot boats they will interfere. The bracket should mount similarly as the MotorGuide.

I cant comment on the sabre, but I have a Minnkota on an 08 Puma. No interference there.

If you have a 45″ shaft the 52″ shaft will not let you open the passenger side rod box all the way and you will have to watch where you lay your rods on that side. i just changed from a 45″ 109 MG to 52″ 101 MK on an 08 Puma. To mount you will have to use the mounting isolators cut off to fill the holes and need 4″ SS bolts to get a full SS locking nut with the backing plate. MK says mount flush with top deck but on the Puma I couldnt and I like the idea of the isolators to keep the mount off the cap. The MK will use the same 4 holes that the MG did. Rockwall Marine said that would be fine as long as I used the aluminum backing plates that came with the boat to distribute stress. The rod box doesnt seem to be a problem I just adjusted how and where I keep the most important rods. On the swap no problem reaching the nuts thru the plug cover if you have small forearms, use some really sticky grease to hold up the backing plates and washers. Cant mount any farther forward. Worked great for me, I did it by myself. Hope this helps. That sounds long winded.

I can tell you that the 45″ MG will interfere when it is adjusted to the shallowest setting. I suspect that the 52″ will have the same problem but more so. As a dyed in the wool shallow water man, I just adjust the setting so that I can access the box and then set it up for fishing. Besides, if you have the dual console Sabre, you can only have short rods on the passenger side in addition to making sure you dont crunch one with the TM.

i have a 07 sabre with a 42 on it and ive fish some ruff stuff with it, and never had the prop jumb out at all with me, if anyting i want to shorten it, when shallow i get get it to come up anuff it like to bottom out even with the higest setting
