the debate ended today about the best bass fisherman of all time. the door was slammed shut today.
Being from Lake Conroe it is hard to admit but it just may be so.
Really!!!Thats funny
I would venture to say he is the best of “our” generation, no doubt. If AOY is how greatness is measured, he is number two still. As well as tournament wins, although he is rapidly closing on those as well..Although he has won the Classic multiple times also, which used to be considered the pinnacle.I think he is the best tournament fisherman in the last 20 yrs. I just dont think the Roland Martin/Rick Clunn/Bill Dance group of fans would necessarily agree. Different era, far superior electronics just make it hard to say who is the best of all time. $4.5 mil, not bad, sounds like golf! Tiger Woods of fishing, how far will he set the standard.BAYOU BANDIT
Though the best of all time is not really a comparison yet. The averages of Rick Clunn rival KVD and he may have been outpaced by KVD now, though in the onset of his career he was phenomenal. 26 consecutive classics, man! There may be no one best of all time, though a page with only a few names on it. BCBLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on August 1st, 2010, 1:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Well put BCB. Rick Clunn is about my age. So when he was at his prime, I was watching his results. I think he was every bit of a fishing machine in his time as KVD is in the current age of bass fishing. Hard to compare accomplished people like that from different eras. Rick Clunn was phenomenal…but then KVD is as well.
I have two people that come to mind both have been said. Roland Martin and Clunn. I read an article this year when they would compete against up to 260 boats in a tournament. I think the eletronics have improved but either way the field was level. I like Basss more than FLW because of FLWs guidelines on sponsors. At the same time Im a little burned out on past lake selection. Cant wait for a good change next year. Eventhough the Classic and end of weekend are getting standard. I was told that Clunn refuses information on tournament waters, “zero” help that is the best angler if thats the case.

I dont know how you could not have KVD at the top of the list. Its the human progression like in any sport. He uses technology better, fishes better, sticks to his game plan better and prepares better then anyone I know of. In my book KVD is the best. Not taking anything away from Clunn just think KVD is the best. Your right you cant compare different eras but at the same time it is a rod and reel, fishing line, lure and a fishing boat. Seems like a constant to me. Also, the progression of technology has made a larger pool of better fishermen too. Heck, hes still going strong has shown no sign of slowing down. Its just a matter of how far he is going to raise the bar. What I like the best about the man is hes a crankin fool and uses $5-$6 Strike King fishing lures. So much for spending money on those $15 dollar Lucky Crafts. I know I am guilty of it. All I know is I am using more Strike King then ever and am catching just a many with those lures as I ever did with $15 lures. Congrats KVD.
