I have a 2012 Puma ftd with a 250 pro xs. I have had to replace the push button (up – enter – down) that controls the smartcraft networked screen 3 times. The boat is garage kept except when wetting the hooks. A direct correlation is identified with having to run back in small rains on Toledo Bend to the small control failure (moisture). The backing is 3m from basscat and I have cleaned the glass with alcohol and let dry to facilitate adhesion each time I have replaced it. What else (has) anyone else done after replacing these to prevent water intrusion. I am religous about warming up my engine prior to coming on plane. When this small part fails, you cannot see the water temp in the engine. Thanks
They suggest you chamfer the slot where the ribbon tape goes through the dash. It should have been angle chamfered, though we do know some did not angle the slot in production. It was more common on older boats. They are replacing the touch pads at no charge still.
Its unlikely water intrusion from the outside is your problem. Sounds like to me the ribbon wire may be damaged during the installation and water/moisture is then shorting it out over time from behind.
BCB it is flush mounted with no bevel or inset from the factory. Would it be possible to get a BC dealer to take whatever steps that would be necessary to prevent this from reoccurring in the future?
A dealer can fix your problem. Just let them know what your issue is and what BCB suggestions to fix.
Its really a 2 minute job to do what they are asking, peel the old one off, the ribbon comes out of the touch pad sideways, it then lays against the edge (slot) of the dash where it goes through. Take a small file (i tapped the area off and used a drill bit and drilled on a 45 with the edge of the drill bit doing the work to angle and chamfer that edge down where the ribbon would lay against the dash) and smooth that area down where the ribbon would lay against the dash. I went through 3 myself and the latest one seems to be working fine since i have done this.
Originally the slots were not chamfered though later this became a solution to the issue. The gauges have worked very well and we like the tri window on the LCD Display for operating the boat. There have been two issues and the solution mentioned is one, another is aging dash touch pads which either became fragile when stored or adhesives failed. They received a fresh batch recently and have plans to continue rotating with a future planned use on the item. In either case BCB is continuing to handle these parts no charge, as a customer service, as they are aware of the potential issue.
I am having a similar or the same issue described in this post (2013 p2, 200 ProXS).I was out in the rain 2 weeks ago and the gauge was working fine, except for yesterday. The gauge started rapidly scanning through the various screens and stopped on the Trip hours screen when I pressed and held the Select button, but would not move from that.Would it be the same resolution noted above?
Absolutely and they will provide another one.
I have kinda an off topic question but I had to replace the round touch pad on my 08 Sabre. I also got the electrical box back behind the dash where the ribbon plugs in to. Is this electrical box used on other boats or specifically a 2017 Eyra? I just realized I have it and can give it to the gentleman who bought my boat if its not a part that I could ever use.
