Jackplate oil question…

Just got boat back from dealer.I have a Bobs Hydraulic JP and the reservoir cap is broken.Any suggestions where I can find one that will work besides getting a new from Bobs ? Can I use sae 30 instead of sae 20 ? ThanksLast edited by MudDukk on December 20th, 2008, 6:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.

If your cap just wont tighten all the way and acts like it has stripped threads ,this is normal. This is because this cap vents through gaps in the threads in the cap

Its cracked on the side running bottom to top.Its not the big deal I thought it was.I thought I was losing fluid from it.Instead it was from the hose THAT WASNT TIGHT ON THE ELBOW !!! Im learning alot lately. I can only find sae30 locally and bobs uses 20w.Would it be a great detriment to use the 30 ? Thanks for all the help.

I asked a local a Marine Mechanic to be sure. Automatic Transmission fluid would be okay. I also ask which brand? Said, It didnt make a difference But did mention (Dextron.) Glynn

Yes, the 30 weight will really slow that pump down in cooler weather. If you live south, then you should be fine. and especially if there is some oil left in the reservoir. The hose probably got jostled druing the battery install or when someone was messing with something in the bilge. Folks can put their feet int here, or hit them with a battery and those hoses move some, which loosens the fitting. Learning is a part of getting up in the morning! We sure dont want to quit it! BCB PS: Sorry for the trouble on this as the rig is newer and little quirks and things like this do pop up, though shouldnt! We know that!

Yeah,Poop happens sometimes.Im just really anxious over not being able to get out in this new boat and start the real education……Lookin forward to my first trip. In the end all of this is minor stuff and it will all work out.I didnt think the 30 would make a gigantic difference as I live in La. MudDukk, Thats a great demonstration of having a positive attitude even while dealing with something that is frustrating. Thats what is great about most BCB owners.
