The 1/4″ bolts will work fine, though we do suggest through bolting them with aluminum plates under the deck. Yours is using the wellnuts on the screws for a nut. This is not our suggested application. We are not sure about the alignment, as in those days many motors were not BCB Installed and they tended to be mounted in many differnt configurations. The bolt holes should align to some predrilled holes in the mount, if your bracket is a Gator 20 mount. There were a couple of mounts then and the gator 20 was new. The 50 pound models were on the older mount, and sometimes while the holes will match, sometimes it does not align to the sub bracket and where the deck preferred mounting angles are. So you may have to redrill to make it how you want it. Then use some form of adhesive pad from a hardware store to clean the installation up cosmetically. It will hurt your soul and your pride, though it will look fine once you are done. Use some hard putty or filler to close those holes off if you redrill as silicone and caulks will not allow adhesive to bound. You other questions are your preference and it just depends on what you would like to do, and if it is feasible for you.
