motor gude mounting

Does any body have a suggestion for raising the height of my motorguide trolling motor on my 06 Puma??? The motor sits way too low and always hits my reels or rod handles!!! I have non boaters drop the motor on some of my reels and bend the handles. This is a poor design on Basscats part. I was thinking about putting a one inch shim plate of aluminum or plexiglass to raise the mount off the front mounting deck. Has anyone else experienced this problem?? Please help, Jim

The whole point of the elevated deck is for ease of flipping / pitching. The trolling motor and bounce buster will do that on all the different boats if you place the rods in the wrong position, or dont check where they are before stowing the motor. And in really rough conditions the trolling motor being close to the deck is a good thing . I would try to get used to the position of the troller, and not raise it. Also keep in mind that most everything done on a BCB boat is done for a reason, and theyve tried all kinds of different heights, conditions, clearances, etc,,,,,, Good luck, D.

I think a 2″ raise in height would not affect the ability to flip well. My 99 Jaquar had 4 “bounce buster under the trolling motor and the rods never were affected!!! Dont get me wrong I love my Puma and I think Bass Cat makes the best Bass boat out there,but I think they should consider changing this on the new models!!!! I appreciate your input. Jim

BasserJC, its not the tm that sits low, the decks in the Puma are more elevated than in the older Jag. Besides the net storage and interior layout, the Puma was different than the Cougar FTD of that same year in that the Puma had more elevated decks, equating into more storage underneath. It is a trade off of sorts. The FTD had less elevation, no net storage. Not poor design just different interior. Have you considered reducing the number of rods on deck or moving them to the drivers side? The “shims” would probably work, just need to make sure the bracket is properly supported. There should be some bracing either built into the tm area or a plate inside the deck for added strength. You may need to call BassCat direct or send an email to make sure no potential for warranty issues in the event the tm takes an impact and complications arise. I would, just for peace of mind. You could use a shim, though the design is from the higher decks and the troller misdesigns. The shaft angle is vertical on your BCB models and is in a tucked under the bow position on other brands of boats. BCB designs the boats to have the shaft close to 90 degrees on the water. The angles of the shaft designs are why your clearance is tight. The new MK is tighter also. There are plenty of factors on this. Forward placement, stowage angle, bracket angle, deployed angle and center placement. BCB uses a dry fit in tooling to square the shafts when fishing. The retracted position is the least considered aspect. This is viewed, though not a determinant.
