LCX 28 HD/997 swap

Thinking of replacing the console LCX-28HD in a cougar ftd.Unit is flush mounted.What supplies do I need ? Obviously Ill have to widen the hole in the dash.Is there a mounting kit I need to buy also ? Thanks

There is an adapter plate you will need for the 997 to mount correctly width wise. Contact [email protected] and they will fix you up. Not sure about the x28 vs 997 holes lining up so cant help there. If I had to guess I would say you will have some light on the top and bottom of the 997 you will have to figure out what to do with. Good luck and you wont be sorry with the 997 it is one awesome piece of equipment. Judd Lasiter

The height of that hole is what I was worried about.I may just let a dealer install it.Any idea what the adapter plate costs ?And dealer installation cost ? Thanks. MudDukk

I dont remember for sure but the plate is less than $50. Dealer install is probably a couple of hours…just guessing there too. JL

I guess Im not understanding. I thought the 997 units were all ram mounted because there wasnt enough space for it to be console mounted. If this is true,would someone whom has installed a 997 in place of an existing unit, post a photo of the adapter plate. Who knows, one day I might convert. Im not scared!!! Glynn

The 997 does flush mount in the Cougar FTD models. The adapter plate brings the unit out for clearance a wee tad.

Glynn…you would never notice the adapter plate if you didnt know it was there. It is only about 1/4 inch thick and a black polymer of some sort. The reason I have always Ram mounted my 997 is because I want my tournament partner to believe in what we are fishing. If he cant see what I am dropping waypoints on he isnt as convinced at times JL

I had our local dealer remove the LMS480 and replace with the HB 997 SI. Note the trim/Bezel from BBC parts.

My 2 cents I know there would be a hole there but you may want to find a way to fill it and install a rams arm mount. Bass Cat installed ming at the factory and it allows me to move it to where ever I need it. It is really helpful fishing with a partner. You can move it if there is sun glare, keeps it out from behind the steering wheel too, and easier acess to the controls. Like I said you will have to fill the void from the old on or just put the cover on and leave in place. Good luck Rusty
