what engine should I get

Looking to buy 2010 Puma or Cougar. What engine should I put on it? I was looking hard at E-TECH 250HO Any opinions?

As a supporter of Brannon Worner…. He would say Go for it, its the best engine out there. I say take your time, study hard, and be happy with your choice. BTW, 250 HO and 250 ProXS are putting similar numbers as tested by a few people on these boards. Talk to Phil Addison about Mercs, and to Bworner about rudes.Dan Yonan. ———————————————————

Id buy the engine that offers the best local service. Not all shops work on all DFI motors nowadays.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

This has been debated before and the general concensus should be………..buy what you want. BCB will state that all brands are pushing each other and significant improvements have been made. Just try to do as much background research as you can, figure out cost of ownership not only for the first 3 yrs but over the time you plan to keep it. What are your performance expectations and like mentioned, availability of quality technicians and service shops in your area. Good luck! BTW, I run a Mariner now and have always run Mercury. I have done a fair amount of research myself and believe I would be comfortable with any of the big 3 engines for my purposes. Any opinions will be exactly that, opinions. From dealers to loyal customers. I second Mr. Sarna- Buy what your mechanic likes to work on and has the most experience with. All lines have had their issues- coils, knock sensors, fuel filters, etc. I have an 09 250HO on a puma ftd. I runs better than a boat should. Would a 250proxs run the same? Sure it would! Have a few folks around here had problems with their blue or black motors? Sure they have. You can go back and forth with this all day. Thanks for all of the advice. I have had a Optimax for the past several years and had no problems. I really like the looks and sound of the E-tech. thought I might give it a try but havent talked to anyone that has run one. I dont really care about top speed because I never open it up anyway. 60 mph is fast enough for me. I do want a quick hole shot though.

I dont know a thing about the big block E-Techs, but the 2.6L I am not impressed with it at all.
