The biggest frustration with my 2010 Puma FTD continues to be be the seat pedestal bushings. Earlier I could not get the seat pedestals to come out and after contacting BCB. I followed the advice to run a 3/4″ spade bit through the bushings but when I did the holes had to much slop and the seats wobbled to much so figuring out that I might have screwed the bushings up I ordered and paid for two new white and one new black bushing for the front. When I received the new bushings I tried to fit them on the seat posts but they would not go I was afraid to drill again because of the first time result so I tried to emery cloth the pedestals themselves with very little success. I finally got the black one to sort of fit and proceeded to remove the old bushing from the front deck not an east task and managed to get the new black bushing into the deck. The front one is now usable with some effort to remove the seat pedestal. The white one on the back was not so lucky. After finally removing the old bushing the new one was to big for the hole and after trying unsuccessfully the bushing shattered and I had to use the other one I had purchased. The only way I could force it into the hole was to to scrape the splines on the bushing down with a knife and sand smooth. It finally was forced into the hole but the pedestal still fits so tight that the only way I can remove the seat is to pull it up and out with the pedestal then beating the bushing off with a pry bar and hammer. Before ordering new bushings I would like someone in parts to take the new bushings and try to fit them onto a pedestal and receptacle before shipping them to me. I think you have or had a bad batch of bushings that dont work properly. Larry Brumley
Larry, We forwarded this to Service and they should be in touch. You can e-mail them at [email protected] if you need more. BCB
THANK YOU SIR!I thought I may have been losing my mind…I have replaced several busing in my BassCats and in other boats, but the last two I received from BCB havent worked….you need a jackhammer to get the seat to slide down in it….thats only if you NEVER plan on removing the seat from your rear deck…it took me hours (and maybe a few dirty words) to get the last one out when it was only half way in and I realized someting was wrong.Who can get me some bushings (white) that work? No more Chinese ones please…
Unfortunately we are relegated to the Chinese imported bushings for the most part. We do not have nay choice at BCB from our vendors now.
I had same problem as you, then I found a Porter Cable 3/4″ forstner bit at Lowes. Just install bushing and drill out hole with this bit. Very precise and leaves a smooth finish on inside of black bushing. On white bushings the finish was not quite as smooth but worked very well. I think the plastic in the white bushings is a softer plastic. As a precaution, you could put bushing in vice and drill out before installation. That way you could fit bushing onto seat post before installation. The bit was a little expensive, but worth every penny. I think about $10.00. Good luck.
If you are going to pay $10 for a bit I would suggest you got to a local machine shopand have them make you some brass bushings. Since I am a machinist I made my ownand I will probably never have to replace them again.Johnny
These did used to be bronze, and they also crack in time. So be sure to have an extra if you can. We also like the bronze ones, though they are NLA. BCB
i used a rat tail file and took it slow no more problems
I have been meaning to thank BCB for helping remedy my seat bushing problem. I was sent new bushing that had been fitted to the pedestal and when I installed them the black one for the front fit nice and tight but you can twist it out buy rotating it counter clockwise. The white on for the rear deck was an extremely tight fit in the deck which compressed the center hole but a few light passes with a fine rat tailed file and it works great no slop but you can remove it. Thanks again BCB. A more satisfied Puma owner; Larry Brumley
Just purchased 11 PUMA with black bushing in front (that wabbles terribly) and white in center and rear. The pro seat fits fine in the white bushings so I ordered one (shipping is more than bushing). The new white bushing fits really nice on the pro pedestal, but how do I get the black one out? Nice to have boards that offer so much help.Flagoo in Napoleonville, LA
