Took boat out this morning and it ran fine. I fished for a couple hours and when I went to run to another spot the motor just started to cut out and wouldnt get over 2000 rpms. Motor would idle fine, just wouldnt take off. Could this be a battery issue, or maybe needs a new fuel filter.

Check alternator charge. Battery may show a charge but not having the needed amperage. Alternator should support running the motor with a bad battery, but its worth checking.Put the water muffs on it. Let it get to running temps. Pull off one spark plug wire at a time. It should idle rough. Do not leave the wire off long. If there is no change in idle…bad plug, wire, power pack, or injector. To me even with one cylinder falling off, it should still want to climb more rpmss. Starving for fuel, or not getting the power to run the electrics.

Alright, your trying to diagnose an engine on the internet, like a heart surgeon by Google. It could be an ethanol issue easily if you have not changed the grey hose and primer bulb. The filter, hoses and all lines should be replaced that are not A1 or A2 hoses, and those should be inspected. You should remove the fuel filter and check the fuel for moisture and phase separation. We have seen a tremendous amount of phase separation in those tanks that are stored full over winter. Fuel no longer should be stored as moisture is absorbed by the fuel. Think back to the 1970s, 80s and 90s… fuel stank when you got it on your hands for days sometimes. Today it literally is gone from smell in minutes. Obviously the composition and chemical content changed. Some of that mandated by the EPA. Then look at firing and electrical issues.

Had the motor checked out and hooked to a computer Saturday. Got the fuel lines replaced, they were starting to deteriorate. The computer showed a couple things wrong. One was a low voltage code, and the other was excessive abuse (that might not be correct wording). The problem was caused by the computer not reading correctly when you shifted into gear, it would show it was still in neutral. So it wouldnt let me get over 2000 rpms and the reason for the abuse code
