All, First time poster here, but have been reading the posts for a while and this group is pretty cool and knowledgeable. For my particular new boat to me setup should I add a Power Pole or a Talon ? Below is a pic of the set up. 2 / 4

When I made that same choice, I went with power poles. A week later, my neighbor bought talons. They weighed a TON! He had to change props, jackplate settings etc. I didn’t have to do anything.

Hey Himmelrr how do they hold for you i was leaning toward power pole, but i got nervous because people were telling me the 8 ft poles dont hold if you start getting to 7 feet of water. any first hand knowledge on that ?

I have dual 8 foot poles on my Sabre and 6.5 feet on my graph is about max depth for hold.

My poles hold great in 7’ of water. After that it is hit or miss. The bottom contour makes a big difference too. If you are working parallel to a steep bank in 6’ and you want to deploy them, the one pole may stick and the other will not. A lot is going to depend on the lakes you fish. In north GA mountain lakes, they are almost useless but southern GA or Alabama lakes they are invaluable.Two things that help make them hold are making sure the PPs are set up properly for speed of deployment and downforce. I added a stainless bullet point to the blunt spike and they definitely hold a little better now.Last edited by himmelrr on April 20th, 2018, 3:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Tallons are just heavy. All self contained so installation probably easier but they weigh a ton.

Talons are self contained. Which makes them heavier. Total weight of Talon is 29 lbs. TOTAL weight of PP 8 is around 26 lbs. 3 lb difference and that 26 lbs will be in the back of the boatPPs you will need to FIND a place to mount pump in bilge. Which makes getting around in the bilge a little more difficult.PPs are so tall if you routinely fish with friends, family or partners its going to change casting angles somewhat. Talons are pretty close to engine height and on a short boat would look better imho.Ultrex would be nice but not practical on an entry level boat.If its just for spring spawn then old fashioned anchors and rope are least expensive or a telescopic push pole could be used. Otherwise if you plan to use them year round itll be a tough choice in my opinion which one to choose. The power pole and the talon both have their pluses and minuses
