Fine Men and Women of the Bass Cat Family, I am pretty sure I have a buyer for my boat so I will be joining the Bass Cat Family. I have my colors and options picked out but am torn on one last thing (well at least today! LOL), how I mount my 917/957 on the bow of the boat. I am leaning toward a ram mount but would love to hear peoples thoughts! Anybody out there mount direct and regret or vise versa? I love the recessed area that it will go in but I am concerned that on a sunny day I could have issues when the sun is coming off the unit directly and I cant adjust it like I could on a ram. Everyones Thoughts? Thanks!
http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/3795. This has a picture of one that Judd has on the console. I think I saw one mounted on the bow of Ikes boat during the Classic with RAM mount.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
You defintely could Ram mount a bow unit, and this unit will also fit in the well next to the foot recess with a slight spacer. The choice is really yours.
I have the ram mount on the console as jignpig linked too but I have a 787 direct mounted on the bow. I personally wouldnt want the unit sticking up that high and dont mind it in the recess. If there is a glare on the screen I just tilt the unit up or down and it works fine. Just my 2 cents…. Good luck, there isnt a right answer it is what you will be happy with. Judd Lasiter
Judd isnt as old as some of us ! i will have a ram mount on my next bow unit, not only to see better, but to reach better to mark waypoints, etc,,,,. my .02 ! D.
If on a RAM mount on the bow would it not get in the way entering and exiting the boat at the dock? As accident prone as I am I would catch it with my foot and break it off. I would end up head first in the water.
Its really up to you as there is no glare that cant be adjusted for that will prevent you from seeing the picture. Ive never had to adjust mine for glare.
I have my Lowrance in the recessed foot well.If you were to ever take a sizeable wave, or two, over the bow in rough seas………..well you get the picture. Mounting on a ram, as others have mentioned, could also cause ingress/egress issues at the loading dock.My .02
