Where do I mount the Ultrex heading puck on my 2018 Eyra? Directions say not to mount within 24″ of TM power plug and head unit and to keep it as close to the centerline as possible? Where does the factory mount the puck?
Because I dont like drilling my boat, I actually used the bow cup holder on my P2. I cut a piece of plastic and used 3m two sided tape to fasten the plastic to the rim of the cup holder. Then I screwed the sensor to the plastic . There was already a hole in the cup holder to run the wire up to a power source at the bow.As long as the sensor is able to communicate freely with the head of the Ultrex, there is no magnetic field nearby, and you can access a power source, then placement is fine anywhere. If you are unsure of placement, you can test it on the water with two sided tape in position before screwing it down permanently.
Mine is as close to center but back by the big motor works great back there.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ultrex dealer installed mine in the back by the anchor light. Ive had it for a year and no issues.
For those who have installed their puck (electronic compass) in the rear of the boat, I’m assuming you connected ring terminals to it and hooked it direct to the cranking battery . If my assumption is wrong, I would be interested in knowing what you hooked it to for power. Second, did you add any kind of inline fuse, such as 5amp, to the positive line? Thank you for any feedback.
A one amp fuse is required as per installation manual. It should also go through some type of on/off master switch as it constantly draws power (although minimal). I have a battery cut off switch connected to my crank battery, so I will just fuse it before going into that switch. My Talon also goes into that cut off switch.
This install will be on my new boat. The cup installation at the bow that I mentioned several posts above was on my P2.

When I install them here at the shop, I place the puck under the mono-arm when stowed (be careful not to get in the way of the crutch). I can usually run the power then to the accessory switch panel on the side.

John, when you’re connecting (powering) the puck to the accessory rocker switch at the bow, can you elaborate on how you’re connecting the puck to the switch.
Right now, that acc rocker has a positive and a ground feeding into the switch. So I’m assuming you’re adding to the positive wire of the heading puck an inline fuse and then a terminal connector to the other end of fuse, and then connecting that single positive wire assembly to the open leg of the acc rocker switch. Then what are doing with the puck’s negative wire? Splitting into the negative wire that’s currently going into the rocker switch? Thank you.
Like you said, on the positive wire I’m placing the inline fuse using a “mini” fuse holder, then using a 1/4″ female spade terminal to go on the power out side of the switch. If something is already connected there, I use what is referred to as a “piggy back” connection. I also use the 1/4″ female spade on the ground and the “piggy back” connection to the switch. A pic below for the piggy back. link is for picture reference
