Topic: Need Help on trailer brakes!!!

I have an 05 classic with tandem axel trailer. When I back up my brakes lock up. If I have it on my trailblazer it doesnt lock up. BUT I have pulled it with 3 other pick-ups and it locks up. I have turned the plug around, used just the flat 5 prong and just about everything I could think of. Is this normal even if you dont have it plugged in at all? Any info would be great. Thanks Billy

If the other trucks are fords it is because they do not have the trailer wiring relay installed. You will need to look in the owners manual to see where it is located on the trucks. Some of them are in a distribution box under the hood and some years are in the fuse panel inside the truck. Hope this helps.

Yes it is, to test it, twist the pins to where the pin connected to the brown wire on the vehicle aligns with the blue pin on the trailer. Now turn on your parking lights, and try backing up. It should back just fine like this.

I also hate to beat this to death, but I am going to have to shell out a little (I hope) money to get it fixed. When I back with any incline, my brakes lock. I have used different Toyotas to back my Cat and she wont move. I swapped wires, turned on lights etc. NO GO. I did not get the “magic key” so I managed to wedge a quarter in the slot so I could back under carport. 1st question – where can I get one of those keys? Next does anybody agree with me that the solenoid is shot? Any guesses on cost of this solenoid. Thanks Michael

It could be the wire to the solenoid, or the solenoid itself. The “magic key” came with the boat new, and BCB parts could get one for you.
