Outside Storage Cover

Ive done a thorough search on topics here, and havent quite found the specific answer I need.Ive always kept my boat in a covered slip, lifted. Unfortunately, I find myself facing an unusual situation where Ill be needing to store my boat on land, on the trailer, outside in the elements (no roof or enclosure) for a few months.I have a very nice Deans fitted towing cover for my Puma FTD. It looks to me to be “waterproof”, and the one time I found myself towing in a rain storm it kept things dry.My question:…is my current Deans towing cover appropriate to keep on the boat for extended periods of time for outside storage — or do I need to buy a different fitted waterproof cover. My biggest question/concern about using my current Deans cover is whether the it will breathe enough, and not create issues in the interior of the boat? I will be able to check on the boat from time to time — ensuring I dont have standing water on the cover after it rains.Thanks for any advice and insight.I2D

unfortunately I have to keep my Eyra outside in the driveway. Other on here recommended the Cabelas cover which I have used for about 6 months so far and its GREAT! Fits tight, no puddles, vents well so no moisture stays in, and keeps the boat VERY dry. I had an Aurora cover as well (canvas type) and even though they have a very good warranty, it didnt shed rain very well just sitting in the driveway. I went to Harbour Freight and bought the heaviest (silver) tarp and bungee straps as a water repeller. This has been covered already so not trying to beat a dead Bass but it is a cheap alternative and actually gives better coverage for the boat. The tarp traps moisture, so take it and the other cover off once a week, open the boxes and let the boat breathe a bit to keep mildew at bay. this has been my experience.also think of keeping some mouse bait in the boat because the little critters love the nice, dry place you just created.

Your Deans cover is fine for storing outside and it is a sealed acrylic cover. You should air it out occasionally as moisture will develop.

BWP – I found few things with Aurora cover but feel its worth it for the good quality. I Scotch Guard the cover thoroughly (especially the seams) once or twice a year. Dont pull cover to tight with motor (mine has motor cover that tightens everything up when you trim it down after buckling straps) because I think that pulls at the seams which is where I get light leaks if any. Use a medicine ball up front by the trolling motor to take the sag area out so water runs off and doesnt pool. Short term storage overnight, I just use a tarp because the Aurora cover is so heavy to deal with (Im old). I only use it for long term storage trips between fishing trips with the silver tarp over that. The Aurora seems to allow air circulations via the front by the trolling motor and the back is pretty open. But Im in the NE and we dont have long term humidity like southern/western part of the country. Someday someone will have to justify why boat covers are almost always black. Yeah they look good but they just suck in the sun to super heat the inside of the boat. Even in Vermont it sometimes melts some of my baits. Why more reflective color isnt used I just dont understand.
