I have 1995 Pantera II. Has anyone had any problems with the floor getting soft. It is mainly on the driver side of the boat and what would be the easiest way to solve the problem.
Mine did the same thing, right around the drain at the base of the bench seat. I took mine to a fiberglass shop that ended up cutting out the entire floor (it was all starting to get soft) and replacing with a Coosa floor. I had to strip all the carpet off and clean before they would touch it, but it only cost me $500 to have it done. Whoever you take it to may be able to cut out a small portion of the floor if its just a small area getting soft. I felt better having all of mine re-done. Either way, youll probably have a hard time finding matching carpet. I think BCB parts has some carpet left from the 95s, but they didnt have my color. Its worth a call to BCB parts if you dont want to recarpet the whole thing. Im sure youve already found out that theyll do anything they can to help you out.As an aside…Im having the same issue on some of my lids, around each of the latches. When I recarpeted the boat, I noticed that some of the lids had deteriorating wood where the hole for the latch was. I think, over time, they slowly soak up water and it rots the wood that is encapsulated in the fiberglass. I tried to fill any gaps from deteriorating wood w/ a putty and then I caulked the hole before I re-installed the latches. Its been over a year since I did that, and they dont seem to be getting any worse, so hopefully theyll last a few more years until I can get a new Puma!
This is fatigue in the area where you place your left foot when you get up from your seat. It is not likely a rotting area, though may have delaminated appear as if it rotted. It usually is in pretty good shape except the delam. We would not suggest using coosa board in this area. We would use AC Exterior plywood. We have good reasons not to suggest coosa, or other urethane board for this process. Some have done the job them selves, and others have used a glass shop. They should try to keep the replacement piece out in the open area. They should not cut the floor back under the seat lip. The console leg would be fine as you can access that area. Though if they try to go back under the seat lip or seat storage, they will not be able to easily seal that area. Just let us know if you have more questions. BCB
Dear BCB, my 91 Pantera II has rotten wood around the drains and seat areas which I intend to cut and replace. Also just wanted to know if it would be worth the effort since the boat is already torn down so much right now that if restringing would be advisable. Ive got everything topside taken off as I am sanding off the peeling clear coat and bad carpet. Ive never uncapped a boat before and want some advice from the guys who put this one together. Im not afraid of a challenge but as a boat/glass novice am I getting in over my head? The reason for wanting to restring is because as I have owned this boat it has gotten heavier. It is holding water somewhere, when parked on certain angles even after not being in the water for a few weeks and no rain, water will pour out. My hole shot has deteriorated steadily over the last 8 yrs and Ive had to drop a pitch in prop. The engine is still strong and serviced regularly, good compresion test. 200hp Merc. Any thoughts or advice would be helpful.
We would not restringer a hull, and if it is in need for some reason, we would use some of the other products and enhance (add) more glass to the side panels of the present stringer to stiffen that area. If you have the floor off, the stringers are visual and they wont hold that much water. Odds are that flex over time has allowed the corners on the rear foam chamber to ingest some water. Also check the front for water as well. Good Luck! BCB
Can anyone tell me if any wood is still used on 07 PIIs or is it all glass? Thanks…
All glass, lifetime transferable warranty.
Don While you are in there (if you are doing it yourself) replace the foam between the stringers. Scott If you want pics to see what you are getting into let me know, been there done that then some
Im wondering if I need to pull my drain cover and seal the opening to prevent this from happening to my floors. Judging from the number of posts lately about floors and stringers this may be a common problem.
Hey Scott can you email me pics dcullings@comcast.net Thanks
