Howdy!Im taking my dad, myself, and my cat to Conroe this Saturday to go bass wompushawg huntin (fihsin). Ive only tooled around the south end of the lake doing some suicide wave boat break-in trials, which I will never do again. I would like to kow some good spots to go hit for some fun bass and is any specific color other than watermelon red or black with chartreuse tail is working good for worm fishing. I have some new Rat-L-Traps to try out on the humps (if I can find some), and have plenty of spinnerbaits with big blades and some good pitchin jigs (might be a little early to pitch jigs, but you never know). If the weather forecast holds as is right now, itll be a little cool running on the lake early in the morning, but looks to warm up kind of quick and eventually hit the low to mid-60s with partly cloudy skies and a storm system supposed to come in after sunset. Weather-wise, sounds like perfect conditions for a big-bass January fishing day. My dad hasnt been fishing in the new cat just yet or has he taken a ride to see how it handles and how uch power that 250 Merc has, so Im real excited to take him fishing. There looks to be a spot on the South side of the bridge up on the north end of the lake, there just south of the western end of the bridge, with some small islands and what looks like a bunch of shallow small humps with deeper channels all around them. Theres a big (relatively speaking) island just to the side of this area, too, on the satellite picture. It almost looks like theres some vegetation there, but I cant be sure from the fuzzy satellite shot. It looks awful bassy, though.I figure to look for humps and ridges at first then move a little shallower once the day warms up and the sun wars some of the shallower flats a little. Im stocking food in the cat for lunch and snacks ad will bring some Dr. Peppers too. my dad is bringing some water.Thank you Bowden Marine for taking care of my dead motor cranking battery the week before last. That seemed to solve the problem of no power. Yalls service is superb! So glad I bought my FTD from yall! Gee wiz, I havent even caught a bass in it yet, last few times out I was enjoying joy-riding around at 60 mph and learning how the boat handled to catch a fish. Not saying I didnt try, just didnt luck into any before I felt the need, the need for speed! Then it was time back then to go put it on shore and eat supper. Fished after supper, but nothing was biting the baits I was throwing, although got some good solid taps, just no takers or keepers.Your Signature …
Oh, need to mention that my dad caught a 7-3 off of a point fishing off of the dirt on a short, sharp point right close to their lakehouse on Rayburn two weeks ago, just before all that cold weather and rain moved in. Im sure he will wind up catching the first bass in my Puma FTD, but I will be able to say I put him on the fish with yalls help!Your Signature …
Good luck on the fishing on Conroe. Sounds like you are talking about the multiple mini humps at the FM 1375 Bridge. There is good fishing up in there but good luck on finding the grass. They placed 15,000 grass carp in that lake some time back and have about if not stripped all of the vegitation from the water. Another couple of good places to try is Caney Creek, Peach Creek and back up around the back side of Stowaway Marina around the little Islands. There is also a Rail Road Tram than runs from the North side of the mouth of Caney Creek towards the middle of the FM 1097 Bridge. It has a lot of good “variable” depths. Good Luck!!!
Cool. Thanks for the info. Temps is suppposed to go from 40 to 70 during the day, with chance of rain in the afternoon. Sounds like a ripe recipe for big fish in late January. Peach creek was one of the spots I had idd as looking promising from a bottom depth and profile ad what I could see for underwater points on a satellite photo I saw online. I got a Hook-N-Line Conroe map today at Academy, so I will be going over that before I crash and zonk out tonight.Oh, something interesting to note, the picture on the front of the Lake Conroe map from Hook-N-Line I bought today had a strikingly familiar trim-striped point at the bow of a bass boat. Then I looked closer and saw BassCat embroidered on the back of the bow seat and the guy pulling a bass out of the water also wearing a BassCat hat. I may get lucky and have fortune smile on me & my dad Saturday. I just hope I catch a fish so I can finally claim first fins in my boat. Its really cool to see your brand of boat, the only brand, slapped on a bass-catching picture of a lake map youre about to go fish. The guys name on the back of the seat, just under the BassCat logo, was Lamar Barnes.Last edited by CajunAg on January 28th, 2011, 5:13 am, edited 1 time in total.Your Signature …
The further north you go in the lake the muddier the water will be on the main channels due to the rains they have had. Water level should be normal now.
There was a huge sack caught in a tourney a few weeks back on Conroe. I believe it was 45+lbs, that lake is hit or miss, but if you find them, hold on!
Last weekend there were two 23lb sacks, 15 blanks and 11 one fish. The lake is still 1.47 ft low.It seems you either do good or nothing.
Boat on the lake is better than sitting on butt at home with honey-dos hovering ever closer…Either if I catch one fish, a bunch, a big one, a small one, or no fish, I will be out of the house and putting line and lure in water, with my dad. I am starting to feel kind of crappy tonight and have some sort of throat grunge trying to take hold, so I am going to just tought it out and go fish. Fresh air away from town will do me good, too. At least the jet skis will not be buzzing around anywhere I plan on pushing my boat to.I understand about the carp eating all the vegetation. Cant have a single weed growing in the lake because it might, might, get stuck on somebodys water intake filter screen while theyre doig donuts next to the hydrilla. Perish the thought. Welp, the carp are there, not uch to do about them at this point but try to find some structure or carp-resistant weeds or weed-like plants, throw a line, and see what happens. I hope its nice and quiet. Maybe well get lucky and see a bald eagle. Theyre usually flyign around and nesting not far from my parents place on Rayburn right now. Really cool to be able to stand on your own property and look over 150 yards from where you are and see a bald eagle on a nest with little birds pokig their heads out of it.Now its time to go rest and get ready for fish or famine.Your Signature …
Went out again yesterday and caught some in around 6 foot of water. They are definitely moving shallower as the water warms up. I found some 58 degree water and caught 3 on a spinner, 2 on a black jig and 2 on a 2.5 crankbait. Go north to warmer water temps and find where the water goes from clearer to stained to cloudy. Then move to the closest finger in those areas and hit the points, docks and any humps/bumps. That stained water is the key because it warms up more quickly. Stowaway bridge and islands always worth a cast.I had some engine issues and took my cat in, so I am not a happy camper this morning. Anyone around Conroe want to be put on some fish??? http://www.vrbo.com/297770
