Im thinking about getting a used Basscat this summer (years from 05- 10). Im trying to stay under $30K. Majority of our tournaments are on the Columbia River in Oregon. When the wind picks up it can really get hairy to say the least. 2ft – 4ft waves stacked & etc. Speed is great but the Jaguar is way to big. I was wondering whats the difference between the Cougar FTD & the Puma FTD? If a find a single console can I add a passenger console? Whats the difference between the regular & the FTD? I heard the cougar has the driver seated higher then the puma or vice versa. Im 5-08″ & 200lbs.My brother has a 99 champ 203…fished out of the for the last 4 years. Its great but tippy when the both of us are flipping. I dont want the same boat as my little brother…lol!• I dont fish with a ton of tackle….lol• I will be putting a Merc 250• dual 8ft power poles• debating on 1 smart 36v trolling batterySorry for all the questions…thanks in advance!
Scooty – I think that if you do a search under Cougar vs. Puma you will find a ton of discussion on the topic. The hulls of the Puma and Cougar are the same, the deck layouts are different. Youve found the best brand, now pick your design and good luck. Always room for another family member. Check out the Boats for Sale on this site and you will find a good inventory of used boats. Good luck on your hunt.
definitely try to get a 2008 or newer to get the New generation hull, BCB always tweaks and changes lil things to the hulls and caps, but 2008 was a big year in terms of pad change and chines sharpening to Race boat standards. The Puma FTD and Cougar FTD differ in bow deck layout, besides that same boats from helm back, same rear tank placement for a Lil more performance than a Midship tank. I sold them back then and the BCBs are just years ahead of the other brands your going to shop, Vacuum molding hulls and transoms is something that $1,000,000 Offshore Race boats, Super High End Sailboats, thats usually the boats that get Vacuum molded, more consistent glass to resin ration for strength and less excess weight. The BCB trailer is second to none, Best Boat Warranty that Ive ever heard of, Lifetime warranty on the boats your looking at for the Life of the Boat not the First buyer, thats HUGE for hull and transom etc…..BCB uses the best wiring, latches, gauges, the list goes on…..Some Owners will post here in the next couple hours and answer the rest of your questions….Now the fun part, SHOPPING……Theirs some Killer BCB dealers that have been BCB for years and years, if you can find one thru them youll be in great shape also……
I would make sure you have plenty of amp hours on whatever trolling motor setup you get for the Columbia. I have a friend with an 07 Cougar who is fishing out of Tri Cities this week. Nixons in Walla Walla were selling BCB, but I dont know if they still are. I bought my Puma FTD from them in 13. Ive been in all the post 02 Cats, except the new Jaguar, the Puma and Cougar hulls are the best ride on big water if you dont need the Jaguar. The Eyras are nice but the FTDs are bigger feeling boats and give up hardly anything in speed. You will love running a BassCat on the Columbia and I can promise you can fit at least 46 pounds of smallies in the livewells.Last edited by mike dominick on March 18th, 2016, 3:57 am, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks a lot you guys. Im definitely looking forward to joining the family. Im just doing my research now. I cant tell you how many threads Ive seen in the past month. This cite is awesome & has cats that are currently for sale. I cant tell you how many phone calls Ive made to people who have sold their boats months ago.I will be going to Arkansas for a family trip & Im going to do my best to go check out their plant. Thanks again for everyones input.
We request folks mark their posts if they sold their boats. All they have to do is post that they sold theirs if they dont know how and we will edit it as SOLD!
Im sorry. When I mentioned that people werent marking their boats as being sold, I wa sn t referring to this cite at all.
Scooty, we could meet up in Kennewick one day if you want to see a Cat up close and catch a few fish, Im always game for a day on the Columbia.
Sent you a pm.
