Hey all. I have an old school “super dash” on my 2000 Pantera III. Recently I have noticed a few issues. First, the horn doesnt work. Second, the alarm doesnt work. Third, when I set the alarm, if I open the compartments, the lights dont come on even though they work fine when the alarm is not set. Any ideas on solutions? Is it just time to replace the super dash or is there something else to look at? Thanks.

First have you removed and checked the horn to see if it works if you hook it directly to a 12v source? Being as the horn is part of the alarm, if it is shorted out it might be causing the dash to basically trip its internal protection when a compartment is opened and that could be why nothing works when the alarm is on. Just a guess!

mgilg, You need to fix one issue at a time. it may have no real problems on a 2000 model other than needing some TLC. Especially if someone jury rigged the wiring trying to fix a system that few understand. The system needs components that function. Try a 12 volt light hot wired into the horn circuit as it requires voltage draw to operate. A meter wont read there unless you know more about how to set it in 12 volts than most electricians. Check everything on the terminal block from the grounds on. It is located on the transom area drivers side.

Thanks BassCat and 1stinLA. Since I know less than ALL electricians Ill try the light trick. Showing my ignorance, where do I find the horn circuit? Do I need to get to the back of the super dash? And trust me – there was no jury rigging done here!

The horn power lead should be the blue wire at the harness behind the dash. or you might be able to reach it in thru the rod box at the horn itself.
