Trailer breaks locking in reverse.

Hi guys i know this is not in FAQ but it wouldnt let me post it there. I just purchsed a 2013 P2 yesterday drove from Al to AR to get it from individual. Pulled it home fine left in drive way over night then when we went to back it out this morning trailer breaks engaged. We were able to get it out of driveway to boat ramp then when we backed it up there they worked fine. Ran the boat was very very pleased with performance loaded it up took it home. Come back out to back it out of driveway again and bam same thing. Towed it to our plumbing shop to back it in and bam happened again. My uncle tows his Ranger with this truck 3 or 4 times a week and never had this problem. Is bass cats trailer different? and yeah we put pin in brakes and it backs fine but this should not be happening. Im suspecting that either it is bypass solenoid or something in trailer wires or trucks wires. Please help!

You may try checking the connection between the trailer and the truck. I have found this to be an intermittent problem with my PII. It is totally unpredictable. As silly as this sounds, it never happened with my Tundra, but after buying a new F 150 a few months ago, it has happened 2 or 3 times, and it has always been the connection at the plug.

Thanks for your reply and yes that is crazy because it was a ford f250 that this was happening on but I just backed it several times with my toyota tundra and it worked fine! I guess only time will tell if there is an int. problem. Regardless proud to be a member of the BCB family!

Real interesting…The other time I had a problem with the brakes is when we used a buddys 1998 F 150. The brakes locked then and had to use the half moon place in the slot to back it in. Within reason this is a coincidence, but it does make you stop and think…..

Are you using the same 5 pin adapter on both trucks? It needs a 5 pin adapter to work correctly.

I bet the pin for it on your ford isnt hot. Mine wasnt on my f150 I had to hook it up on the back of the plug, truck side.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

Turn the plug sideways and connect the brown pin on the truck harness to the blue pin on the trailer and turn on yur parking lights. If it backs up then ou have a power feed issue from the truck. If it doesnt then you possibly have a bad solenoid. You may be able to hear it click when on next the wire pin if its hot.

The plug we were using on his truck was not a 5 pin it had an adapter that was round that plugs into prongs I believe this may be the problem I really hope its not the solenoid cause I do not live close to a BC dealer

The solenoids are fairly easy to come by. It is a UFP product.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on July 6th, 2014, 5:00 am, edited 1 time in total.

Some trucks without a towing package added will need a relay to put power to the center pin of the round plug. If you do not have power at the center pin when the truck is in reverse, then you need to get that relay and install it or get it installed in the correct place at the fuse box.
