Corky, I live 20 mi West of OKC in Yukon Ok. It is a great place to live with a family. I fish in SE Ok and maintain my familys home place outside of Eufaula Ok. The fishing is good with lots of water to choose from. Grand lake and Konowa lake were ranked in the top 100 bass lakes in the US. Konowa is a power plant lake so the water temp is great all year, its about an hour from OKC. My cousin fishes the Fishermans Choice trail, he likes it and there have been some good events we have fished together. My boat is serviced at S&D Marine in Shawnee, Ok, about 30min East from OKC. They are good people and have treated me and my cousin very well. He is on their prostaff and has been treated good. They represent the quality found at BCBs. The cost of living is minimal compared to other larger cities across the US. We have the OKC Thunder as well as a cult like following of OU and OSU football. The price per sqft for new construction right now in Yukon is about $125 per sqft. That is with all the amenities you could possible want. Land is about $1000 – $1500 per acre depending on use. The weather is stressful at times, when its bad it is REALLY bad. A storm shelter in the garage floor will cost you about $2500.00 and its worth every penny. OKC isnt really prone to tornadoes, only about one every five years or so, and Eastern OK really has very few to speak of. And, like fishok said, the economy here has weathered the ups and downs very well. 30% of the OK economy is in oil and gas production. Oil and gas are on the world wide market so there is not the fluctuations that there used to be back in the 80s. Its not the wild west but we have open carry laws here and crime really is nominal. We are a RED state…Thank goodness. Let me know if you have any questions and if so Ill get you my cell#. SmackyLast edited by Smacky on December 9th, 2013, 7:20 am, edited 1 time in total.
