Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › On the Sabre FTD & Pantera 2- Can you reach the TM pedal from the pro seat?
And is it a comfortable reach? Im 6ft and I assume the answer would be yes. I keep reading about the TM pedal being very far forward which some dont like; scared of losing balance and falling out, (why not lean on the pro seat?), etc, etc.. I dont have access to climb around in or even see one of the Basscat models in person in my area. Tough to commit to buy a new one, or drive a few hundred miles to look at a slightly used one.Im considering a Sabre FTD, P2, or 618 and 619 Phoenix, and would prefer a slightly used (less than 2 years old) one with warranty over new, but havent ruled out new yet. My local Basscat dealer within walking distance does not have any in stock, and wont have any for a couple of months or more waiting on the 15 models. Id really like to ride, drive, or fish out of one, or at least climb around in one of these Basscat models in the showroom to get a feel of whether Id like the feel and layout. Ive got to climb around in a Phoenix all I want to get a feel of the layout, and that dealer has even offered to take me out and let me drive it. I dont have that opportunity in a Basscat. Im not knocking the Basscat dealer at all, and hes been very nice the couple of times Ive talked to him, but he said he did not normally demo any of his boats, although its only 5 miles to the lake.I guess I could be patient and wait a few months, but am beginning to get anxious to purchase a boat, but I want to make sure I make the right decision, as this will be my last boat purchase. Im not kidding! I purchased my last new one 22 years ago, and am 55 now.
I can reach it fine sitting or leaning on the seat. Im 62″ – 2003 Sabre13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
I see you are in Kentucky. There must be a Cat owner somewhere near you who will take you out. Put a post over on BBC in the Bass Cat forum as well. I am sure somebody will make an arrangement to meet up with you and take you out in their Cat. Owners are quite obliging. Hopefully after your post somebody will step up.
I could ask my dealer if theres a local owner that would be willing to do that. He mentioned selling a couple of them this year, but I dont know if they were sold locally.Im located in Glasgow KY on Barren River Lake.
Im 6 tall and lean or sit on the butt seat all the time while fishing. (Im too much of a klutz to fish without it.) Trolling motor pedal is no problem to reach at all. Ive fished out of a P2, no problem there either. You have to remember the pedal is farther forward on a BCB, but so is the pedestal location. Take a short vacation and drive up to Sherms Marine in Wabash, Indiana. I bet he would take you out in a Cat. Or, I am sure there are several BCB owners near you who would take you out in their rig. As Catdude28 said, ask your question in The BCB forum on BassBoat Central. Lots of Cat owners on that site.
First BCB dealer I connected with was not very obliging. I ended up making a connection with Sherm at Sherms Marine and I can assure you it was worth the little extra drive. Sherm is a Great Guy and has always made me feel that every request I had was his priority. I would have no problem reaching my TM pedal. I Love my Sabre FTD!!Dan
The front deck/ pedestal layout in a BassCat is way different than other boats. For the first few times I felt like I was going to fall off the front. After a short time, it seemed normal. There is a P2 at Riverside Marine about 70 miles South of you. I have a 2014 P2 and am exactly 100 miles South of Glasgow.
There is a BCB dealer in Versailles Kentucky and he has a new Cougar Advantage and a New Demo Puma FTD as of 2 days ago when I was there. The cougar is in the showroom and the Puma is outside under the huge carport. I am in Mount Washington, Kentucky and it takes me about 45 minutes depending on traffic to get there in case you are interested.
Im 60″. I can reach it fine on my Sabre FTD. I turn the butt seat around, raise it all the way, and lean against the back alot. Being close to the nose takes time to get used to, but it also makes spotting underwater objects, and site fishing easier.
I have a older model sabre but I figure the distances are similar. I am 5 ft 10 and I have no problem reaching it. I can even put a seat up front and sit in it if I decide to spider rig for some crappie. It takes a little time to get used to it but I wouldnt change it now.
