Just curious to peoples opinion of the triangular livewells in the FTD models.I know they are largest in industry and protect fish better durinf runs withwater not sloshing around.Do you see any other big advantages to them? No big differences than a square one? With it being deeper do you find it harder to get the fish out for weigh-in or sort through fish when culling?
I have had mine for over 2 years and I really like them! They are super deep so If I dont put cull strings on the fish, I will get my arms wet above my elbows and the only time thats a problem is when you are fishing in cold weather. The folks I take fishing that do not know BCB product lines are always amazed at the size of the wells. I have NOT lost a single fish and the volume certainly helps. I also like that they are dark colored on the inside and NOT white. It seems to keep the fish calmer. Its pretty cool watching the fish in the wells, they head for the deepest part of the well every time! At the end of the fishing day, I pump water out of the pump out and fill my bag with that water. Once, the level of water gets low in the wells, I grab my cull strings and yank the fish out. Its very difficult if not impossible to get a weigh in bag out of the wells with water in it, so its easier to pump out water and fill from outside.
From what i understand the problem with the triangular wells is just like the rectangular livewells, GETTING FISH IN THEM !
I get that same problem. I recommend more time on the water to allow the triangular livewells get more time for break-in, then fish will be willing to just jump right on in, especially if you advertise just catch-n-release, and not catch-n-munch like I do in my boat, Aint no wonder I never get no volunteers…Your Signature …
triangular livewells are better than square livewells because they hold more water and they protect the fish better while running around.
PA, they also hold more than 5 !!BAYOU BANDIT
I have owned both square and triangular. The big question to me was how functional would triangular be?Well it just doesnt matter- the triangular lids lift and open plenty.More importantly they give the boat design room to the side boxes, the rear tanks, and i believe they are more volume of water than in the past.As for the depth and finding fish- get livewell lights and you can see fish in there just fine-partic the small ones I catch. My only request in the future is that the hinges be designed to let the lids stay open passively for livewell checks. I fish alone a fair amount and trying to leave the lids open as I trailer by the person checking livewells means I have to prop them open.C.O.D. Jr. III
With all the spotted bass on Lake Norman and their tendency to want to jump out, I like the fact that my triangle lids lower the chance of one of those spots making his leap to freedom. The same will be true for you down on Lanier.Andy GreeneGreene Boat & MotorAndy Greene Greene Boat & Motor 828-286-2290 http://www.greeneboats.com
True that on the spots Andy. Large mouths too. Theres nothing like holding a 2 lber in one hand, open the lid and have a 3 lber just seem to slide out of the box and you gotta tackle it like a football. That actually happened to me.What about those lights you had in your live well? Would those help see the fish better even in daytime fishing?
My livewell lights are from Mike Daleo at Bluewater LED. We have them in stock if you want them. I love mine! Ive never tried using them during the day but they are a must-have at night. This time of year, fishing during the day is about impossible because we are so busy at work. If I want to go, my only option is to fish at night; therefore, they are a must in my boat.
