Hey guys. Just wondering what your thoughts would be on my speed. First off let me say that this is my first glass boat and I am still new to learning how to drive it. The boat is a 2011 Puma AE wit a 225 Pro XS, manual jackplate, and a 24P Fury. The boat gets out of the hole like a rocket. Barely lifts the bow and gets right on plane. I was wondering what do you think my approximate top end should be? The boat isnt loaded with a lot of gear but two adults, full fuel in the belly tank, and livewells. Top speed I have seen is about 64-65. Does this seem about right or should I expect more with experience driving? I have not touched the jack plate. I love the way it gets out of the hole but I feel like I am getting outrun or cant keep up with people in the mid/top end. Would a 25P give a little more without killing the holeshot? I am thinking of getting a spare prop and was going to try a different one. My buddy has a Triton TR20X2 with a 225 Optimax non XS and his is way faster than mine. Again, I am the novice driving compared to an experienced one, but I cant even keep up with him. His will do 73.I am not one of these speed freaks, just more curious about what I should expect versus what I could achieve. Thanks guys,Frank
Not real familiar with the 225 / puma set up but I would say 73-74 roughly depending on a few variables . You may have to run a 25 to get there, which you should beable to if your not real heavy. Seat time will cure some speed issues for sure. If he has a x2 running 73 he has it set up good an has a lot of seat time on you. Take your time it will come, if he has a lot of seat time get him to drive your boat an see what happens. His first move maybe wanting to trade.

I would expect 73-74 out of this rig set up right
with a 26 trophy 72 -74. The trouble with the trophy26 is the lower end . Doesnt load on trailer worth a darn. Dont use a cavitation ring , no plugs and as it comes over onto plane you have to feather the throttle slightly. A 25 fury is a nice prop with the Puma 225XS. Good hole shot , can put the boat in the truck bed if you want. 70s are there if your motor is stout and in good shape.Bob
I would run a 25 Fury. Set the Jack plate at flush and run it. If the left hand torque is minimal, I would raise the Jack plate 1/4″ at a time until the torque gets unmanageable then drop it back to the last setting.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
There is more there, but it wheel take a wheel (prop) change to get there. Just remember that striving for top end will affect the holeshot. There is no way to have the best of both worlds. Prior to 2007, a 225 was the standard engine to run on these boats and top end speed typically would be low to mid 70s with some a bit faster and some a little slower. The prop of choice then was a 25p or 26p Trophy. Since, there have been subtle changes to the boats, engines, and the props. I would start with a 25p Fury which should get you above the 70 mph mark and you should raise your jack plate to target 5850 to 6000 rpms without a lot of torque at the wheel.Though, do not change anything until you get the experience at driving. The more you tinker now, the more apt you will become frustrated and confused about top end speed. Good luck.
Ive ran a few different props and the 26 trophy runs the best for me. I have the twin kicker tanks and dual PPs and best Ive seen is 74.5 with 2 people. Everyday tournament load will run 71-72
