Transducer Mount Question

Hey guys, havent been on here in a while… would appreciate your feedback.Im wanting to upgrade my electronics on the console to the Lowrance Elite 5 DSI. There is no shoot thru hull transducer for this unit – I guess since it has the down scan imaging. Ive never had a transducer mounted on my transom always the shoot thru hull.Im concerned with 1) putting screws in my transom although I know a lot do it, 2) will the drag on the transducer cause any performance or handling problems at high speeds?JasonJason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra

The standard transducer shoots through the hull on sonar, though the side scan for the LSS1 does not.

I understand that there are two ways to do this without drilling into your boat. 1. Mounting to jackplate if you have one. That makes the most sense (if you have one). 2. A few places make a custom mount for the LSS-1, if you look on BBC in the Lowrance forum you may find what youre looking for. Hope this helps.

What JP says, Scap and Shirley at Transducer Shield and Saver are your friends, mount on the jackplate, secure, easy mounting, no holes in the boat. Mike

JasonWhat do you have in dash currently?Also I have glassed in several transducers over the years that were not specifically shoot thru and have seen no ill effects.so I bet we can get you fixed up in no time.shoot me an message if you need some help from another Edmond cat owner and I will be happy to do what I can for youTreat everyday like it might be the last

SMBASS: Scap made me a mount for my PIV Slidemaster jackplate for the LSS. You just have to call them. Mike

Here are a couple pictures of an LSS transducer mounted on my PIV with a manual Slidemaster jackplate. This is at least the second one that Scap at Transducer Shield and Save has built for a PIV, I also used their standard LSS trolling motor mount on the front. I did not use the Lowrance L shaped mount, this one is much stronger. It might not look like it in the picture, but the mount is machined to set the transducer level with the hull. I have no idea what the downimage transducer looks like, but Im sure Scap would machine a mount to go on the jackplate if you cant use a shoot through one down in the sump. Hope this helps, Mike
