I had an opportunity to take my “new to me” Margay out to the lake today. Was very pleased by its performance, however its driver needs more experience. I have no real frame of reference because this is my first boat. But, it seems like the Margay requires very little trim. Your literally out of the hole instantly, and a few bumps of trim and before you know it your at like 60mph. My question is, is this normal, the lack of trim? I believe I was around 5800 RPMs and close to 60 MPH with around 15 on the water pressure. I know she is capable of more, but I need more experience behind the wheel.

Yes it is very likely normal. If you continue to trim your rpms may become out of range if indeed you are turning 5800. I assume youre running a 150 Mercury Opti. Getting more out of it may require a using a larger pitched prop.

Prop is a 24 tempest. 5800 may be excessive, I didnt pay complete attention. I know they were typically between 5200-5800. The more I attempted to trim, it started to walk a bit. Yes, 150hp ProXS

Okay Scott….sounds like I need to come up to TN for some driving lessons on my ex-baby. She will do 67 the way it is set up at about 5900-6k rpm. Maybe a touch more trim and a little working of the wheel. I think you did great for your first time driving a bass boat. You will get it. If not I will be glad to come help.
