Any opinions on a new 2008 E-Tec on the back of a Classic? I have only owned Merc and would like some insight from others…besides a Merc dealer.

They sure are quiet and smooth compared to my Opti.

its all about your dealer. whatever they like and have a good relationship with is the key. its a fast motor(HO) but its going to use more gas. faster than an opti is debateable but certainly equal by speed accounts. lower unit. prior to 08 dont know that I want that lower unit by choice. new L2 gearcase has gears from a dang helicopter manufacturer and I have heard great performance stories about it. but its new. I have an evinrude but my biggest stink is no in house extended warranty like merc. overall Id definitely own another rude but I dont really care about gas consumption and personally want dealership reliability first and speed second. Ive got unbeatable evinrude source here and my DI HO will run.C.O.D. Jr. III

Mac, it is all about your preference. If you like your dealer, and they are strong BRP, then go Evinrude. If you like Mercury, then go Merc. The choices are yours and you will only be happy long term if it is what you wanted. Lets look at it like this, if it broke which one would you feel better about owning. No matter which one is to break, which one would you feel best about? That is the one we would buy.
